Mark,
I'm open to either day. If people are taking Monday off, then Sunday may be the best day. Otherwise, Saturday.
Ok, everyone needs to weigh in. _________________ Tom

Let't make it Saturday then. I plan to cruise on over the Valdez on Sunday or Monday if the weather is good. Never done that yet so I'm halfway.
Dan, some ice would be nice, 30lbs or so. I'm also bringing a couple of watermelons. I think I'm going to rig one up with a small anchor and fish net and hide it somewhere in Shoppe Bay so we can have a watermelon hunt. The last I checked watermelons floated right on the surface, so a good set of binoculars will help. I'll probably give a box with GPS coordinates on the corners with the watermelon somewhere inside. |

We have named our boat!
It only took 4 months but we have named her "Shiroz" as in the rich and full of spice Australian red wine. |

Cool name Mark, sounds full of zest. Is that wine served cool or room
temperature.
Is your 25', color coordinated with the wine? |

I will be launching out of Whittier on Saturday and plan to spend the night in Bettles Bay. Took the boat out in PWS 2 weeks ago on the maiden voyage and cruised 160 miles in 2 days, College Fjord, Ester passage, Knight Island, Cullross Passage.
I plan to launch mostly out of Whittier and Seward, maybe Homer once a year. I am in the process of selling my jetboat. I will tell you, purchasing the C-Dory is the best thing I ever did. I love that boat, everything about it! |

I'm thinking about the rules for the watermelon hunt just so everyone can get some practice with their GPS, charts, compass, and binoculars. I was thinking of something like this.
a. There are two watermelons involved.
b. Each boat is given a starting point defined as the intersection of two compass lines off of points on the chart.
c. From the starting point there are 4 compass bearings laid out. Only two of the compass bearings have watermelons. Each compass bearing has a range of distances where the watermelon could be located.
d. The watermelon will be located within 100 feet of the correct compass bearing, navigation errors of the judge and contestants not withstanding.
I will hand out a chart page with the information for each starting point whenever you are ready to begin.
If this is too complicated, I'll just hide them somewhere within a 1/2 mile of where I am anchored. |
