Dear All.

We had another successful Catalina Off-Shore Adventure. Thanks for coming: John & Robbin, John & Laurie, Steve & Karen, Steve, and Floyd. We had six C-Dorys come and participate.

We had a successful pot luck dinner on Monday, and a nice fish fry on Thursday. Of course we had a going away dinner at the Harbor Reef restaurant on Friday.

Everybody got a lot of relaxation. Weather was great and the crowds still down. Just about the time we all got on Island time we all had to go home.

Everyone made it over and back to Catalina with no mishaps and everyone got trailered home safe.

God willing, perhaps we will see you all next year at the same time and place.

Yes Colby, it would be great to see you again. Long trip for you though.

Jim, another excellent trip in the books, thanks again for your superior planning and guidance. The Monday evening BBQ was one of the best we have ever had that I can remember. You can't get that quality of food in a restaurant. And the company with folks made it all that much better.

This year I did something different, I left my dingy motor at home. Never again. I figured being by myself, I'll have plenty of elbow room to row. Plus being on the "string line" at the Isthmus at Catalina, they nearly always put me near the dock to go ashore. So, wouldn't you know it, they put me nearly as far away from the dock as possible--this partly due to the extreme tides from the unusual moon position causing shallow water areas (and I have a 25). Then we had these exceptional afternoon winds that made you clamp down your hats - well rowing in that required a 45 degree wind correction. But it all worked, no real issues, part of the adventure.

It was great seeing everyone, we had wonderful weather and it was nice to be in Catalina without all the crowds. I put together a little video for the trip which you can watch here

https://youtu.be/vYoulR2NRLQ

I am still working on the one from the Delta Trip!

Hopefully will be seeing you all next year

Thanks again Pounder, you are the maker of memories!

Floyd (and others) Thanks for the great video. What tall ship was that? How did the Palapas/private teak platforms, impact your use of facilities. I noted a sherrif's boat there, do they have a full time Sherrif presence?

Most of the boats tend to moor on the West Side of the Isthmus, since it is calmer there. I didn't see much of the West side, but the East side was surprisingly vacant for that time of the year. Fuel costs? Vs fewer people using the Isthmus as a destination??? What are your thoughts?

Thanks

Hi Dr. Bob.

The tall ship is the Irving Johnson out of San Pedro (built in 2003). It takes youths out to the Island.

All the new rules and regulations had absolutely no real impact on our visit. We found great free BBQ facilities by the school house. (No water view now though.)
Fishing was still decent. We got enough fish for the Thursday night fish fry by fishing on the edges of the MPAs.

Yes, appears to have a full time LA Sheriff now at Two Harbors. Very safe and controlled environment.

Yes, Two Harbors was surprising vacant. Could be a variety of reasons, Post Covid, high gas prices, kids back in school, etc. The total lack of crowds made the experience all the more enjoyable.

Yes, Two Harbors is still a world class venue. I guess that is one of the reasons why we keep coming back.

It would be great if you could come again, perhaps on your son's C-Dory. The place would definitely bring good memories. It is far from wrecked!

Floyd.

I forgot to mention that the best part of your video is the very end. Very funny!
