New member with a recently purchased Toland 18-8 here!
This forum was a place I used in researching this boat that came available in Gustavus Alaska. Thank you all!! I’ve always been a fan of C-dory lines and the loyalty among their owners. I was in need of a small well appointed, lighter weight and easy to manage cabin cruiser and feel very lucky to come across this fairly close to home. Looking forward to sharing adventures and information.

Hello and Welcome,
We just purchased a Toland 18-8 about 7 months ago and have really been enjoying it. We are sure you will too. We have been able to spend about 10 nights on board so far. I need to get a photo album up too.
Look forward to hearing more about your adventures. |

Thanks Rob,
That’s exciting! Glad to here from a happy Toland owner. Do you have Tim tabs or permatrim at all? On the test drive I felt like I could see value in one or the other or maybe both? I take possession on Monday the May 9th and am super excited! _________________ Nathan and Niki Carey

Hello,
We have permatrim tabs on, I think it’s the blue or purple zip tie on it. I’m a little color blind so not 100% sure of the color. They make a big difference. One needed replaced when we got her and you could tell a difference when the new one was on. Easier to get up on a plane and seemed to handle better even if the weight was not even or someone moved in the boat. It is just the right size for two of us. We have taken six on a slow afternoon cruise. What engine does yours have? We have a Honda 75 and it seems to do well. We can cruise comfortably at about 4200 rpm and about 18 knots. We have had her up to about 26 knots but it starts to get a little squirrelly. At 2000 to 2200 rpm we cruise at about 6 knots.
Only 2 more days and you’ll have her! |

I wonder what type of foil you are discussing here. A Permatrim bolts onto the anti-ventilation plate of an outboard motor. I have never seen them categorized by color of "Zip Tie".
Are you referring to Trim tabs which are attached to the lower outer part of the transom? |

My mistake, sorry confused the names, we do not have Permatrim but rather Nauticus trim tabs and they have a spring or hydraulic type ram on the tab. |

Rob,
Before our purchase this Toland was just recently repowered with a Yamaha 115. It out weighs the previous 75 HP by less than 30 pounds amd seemed to perform really well on the sea trial. I was skeptical but it seems to ride really well and balanced forward and aft pretty good. I do have a set of hydraulic Bennet trim tabs on the way for lateral control. I was a little skeptical of the 115 but my family tends to do a lot on our adventures which has a lot of gear involved. I really do not like an underpowered vessel and for better or worse this is not underpowered. The fuel consumption also seemed really good at 3
-3.5 gph cruising around 23-24 mph @ 3600-3800 rpm. Once I get the Bennet’s installed I will consider a permatrim. I would love any feedback from anyone on the trim tabs options and or the thoughts on HP. |
