Has anyone tried to open an account in ArriveCan ?
It says you can open an account, but you can't schedule a trip until 72 hours of reporting in.

What a can of worms. Sad

I set up an account this weekend for my wife and me. It's fairly straightforward. One needs to enter, in our case, our Nexus Card ID numbers, but passport numbers would work as well. Then one enters vaccination and booster data which includes uploading a photo of your vaccination cards.

I'm actually hopeful that ArriveCAN eliminates our need to get an annual Remote Area Border Crossing Permit which allows us to boat into the Canadian waters of our lake without checking in.

Having said that, we have no pressing need to cross into Canada any time soon. But I wanted to be ready.

I used ArriveCAN heading north last April, and heading south in August. Only thing tricky about it was that it asked for an address where I was going in BC. CBSA folks told me to enter the address of the marina where I was going to check into BC. I submitted my info shortly before entering Canada. No problem for me.

It's not really a can a worms or sad. That's how that's how the site is intended. You can't really ask and answer meaningful questions about your current state of affairs (health, etc...) three months in advnace of a trip. Open an account and then, within 72 hours of your trip, log on and file your trip report.

Glad to hear others are having success with this program, as it keeps locking up on me. I'll try again. Confused

Canadians woke up this morning to find that Canada is now run by a One Party Government , just like where most of our goods come from. This is information for those who may wish to enter Canada , things are changing quickly so my advice is to check and double check the laws before you come. Hopefully , this change will not effect any ones boating trips.

Can you please be more specific. I am scheduled to cross the border and I cannot find anything that has changed since the announcement regarding April 2nd.

Probably nothing has changed, as all this has just occurred today. I was just informing you that the situation in Canada has changed and I was just making you aware of it. It's just something you should know when coming to Canada.

What situation has changed? Specifically, is there something I must do now that is different with regards to entry requirements?

I was just informing you that the Canadian Government is now a one party Government instead of a three party government. It just affects Canadians and in your case probably nothing has changed , it's just something you should be aware of seeing we are neighbors.

I don't think this will effect the border opening or any other factor for visitors to Canada. The statement above is not really true as there are four major parties and a few smaller ones and independents running the country. Two of the them ( the ruling Liberals and the NDP) decided to cooperate in something similar to a coalition government which is the norm in most countries in Europe and many other counties of the world. The Conservative Party is still the official opposition and they are sore that they have not been in power since 2015. The Bloc Quebecois which represents much of the French speaking province of Quebec is also sitting in opposition. This is a long way from a one party state that you would find in Communist China or other authoritarian countries like Russia. Don't worry we are still one of the most free and democratic countries in the world. Some people should just watch the news and see how others are really suffering in the world.

FYI.. There is only one ( Ruling Party) In Canada. It's the Liberals now that have absorbed the NDP. The Liberals now control the House of Common /Parliament with the most seats which make all others Political Parties in Canada (combined ) unable to stop the Liberal Party from passing any Law that they want without Democratic due process. That by definition is a Dictatorship.

I didn't mean to turn this thread into something Political which wasn't my intend. I only meant to pass on some information.

I travelled to Alberta last November. Pretty easy, and the ArriveCan app worked fine. Nearly everything I did (restaurants, stores) required proof of vaccination, which is straightforward for Canadians, but typically took time explaining the paper copy "proof" I had from the US. It'll be good not needing the test in the future...I paid $175 to get one last year. The free ones weren't very available, and took too long to get results. I look forward to visits this summer.

Of course you meant to turn this into something political. Don't insult our intelligence. Your post had absolutely nothing do with current border crossing regulations. There are plenty of other web sites you can turn to if you want to whine about politics.

I took a re-look at an old textbook.

Dictatorship: A form of government in which one person or a small group possesses absolute power without effective constitutional limitations.

Tug: It was fine with me to see your post, though it didn't have a lot to do with boats. The topic was our border. I do understand your frustration with the Canadian government currently. I hear the frustration from my friends and colleagues, particularly ranchers and farmers, on both sides of the border. We yankees watch our governments appear to see-saw from one extreme to the other. Grousing about it is our right.

I have worked in a few places that could be defined as dictatorships, and I just don't see Canada as one. While working in those difficult places, sometimes after a civil war, I often was very careful what I did and said. I sometimes paid bribes, once while a soldier openly held a gun ready, but usually just to "grease the skids" for travel or get stuff. The "Law" was whatever the person in power at that time and place decided it was. I was probably safe, but some of the locals I worked with could lose a lot.

Treasure your right to express your frustration without fear of a van arriving in the middle of the night and disappearing you. My wife grew up in Brazil during their years of military dictatorship. She thought only generals could be president, and students sometimes wondered what happened to free-thinking teachers that just vanished. One of my cousins married an Iranian man that probably escaped "disapearance" by running out the back door when an armed group arrived at his front door. A relative warned that he was "marked" and friends drove him to the Khyber pass and he walked into Afghanistan and eventually came to the US.

I consider myself lucky to live in the US. I think most Canadians feel the same about Canada. There is certainly room for improvement in both places. Though you can sometimes get caught up in Canadian bureaucracy with a border guard that has a bad day (you can here too), usually a visit is straightforward, and I'm very much looking forward to spending more time in Canada in the future.
