Good evening all! I am trying to figure out how to remove the dash above the helm on a 2009 Tomcat. I have two radios that need to be replaced but cannot get the dash loose. I thought maybe the buttons would unscrew but no luck.

Any hints or help would be appreciated.

Are you talking about the shelf in the overhead? Don't know about the Tomcat, bit on my 22 cruiser the fit is really, really tight. The shelf can only be removed on hot days when the cabin expands due to the heat. Even then it is a tight fit.

How about a photo? The buttons could cover screws. "Buttons" usually pop right off. I don't remember anything like that on my 2006 TC 255.

Can you access this area from the bunk forward of the console?

Yup, that's the shelf/dash I'm talking about. It houses the stereo and VHF which I would like to replace.

I will post a photo when she comes back from the rigger. Getting a couple items installed before the big splash day.

The forward part of it butts right up to the bulkhead above the windows. No access that way that I can see. I thought maybe the buttons unscrewed but no luck. Maybe they pop off?

If it is the shelf above the driver in the center of the boat, earlier boats had that held in place by the same bolts which held the outside hand rail in place.

Buttons would pop off if they are covering a screw.

Agree, measure topside rail mount distances compared to inside rail mount distances to confirm. Top and bottom rail mounts bolt into each other. Clever.

Cheers!

With the boat back from the shop and all your input, I have it figured out. I had never seen a button covering a screw like this before. Appreciate the help!

Our overhead is held up with screws which are covered with the upholstered buttons, just use something flat to pop the button off to gain access to the screw head.
Hope this helps
