Hello fellow CBrats! There are a few of us on the East coast with C-Dory boats near the Chesapeake Bay. I’d like to gauge interest in a C-Dory gathering somewhere along the Bay in May 2022.

Please PM or reply here!

Thanks!

There are several harbors with plenty of transient slips and anchorage’s with all the amenities.

I’m happy to put together a list of options and dates!

I'd be interested. However, there is also the west coast gathering at Friday Harbor in May. And how is the weather in the Chesapeake in May? Colby

May is ideal. So is June. July and August can be hot and sticky (surprise!),

September and October can be perfect -- except for hurricanes (and more likely heavy freshwater discharge with lots of debris).

I assume most east coast folks aren't planing on towing to the west coast.

DaninPA,
That sounds like a wonderful idea. Joan and I would be very interested.

Summers are pretty busy for us, but sure sounds like a fun idea to consider.

Great! I’ll start working on some options and dates. Probably mid-Bay between Rock Hall and St Michaels (we’re at the top of the bay near Havre de Grace)

Lots of places to go around Havre de Grace. Chesapeake City, North East, Delaware City, Chestertown, port Deposit, ... Problem might be finding a marina up that way that can take a bunch of boats all at once (outside of Havre de Grace).

There used to be a gathering in the Norfolk, VA area. They did a loop down the James River, through Norfolk, and the Dismal Swamp loop. It hasn't happened for a few years now though.

The question is going to be what are the people in the middle of the country going to do in May. Go east or west?

HdG is a nice spot but would be a 20 minute cruise for us. Very Happy But we’re happy to go with the consensus!

I’m looking for marina with capacity for up to 15 transients. Is that a fair estimate?

I would be surprised if there’s a marina in HdG or nearby with more than 5 transient slips (it seems everyone within an hours drive bought a boat and leased a slip in HdG last year).

I’m thinking we need a marina to host up to 15 boats — but will happily toss that guess if there’s more interest!

Ssobol,
Joan and I facilitated several mini-loop and James River trips. Most were staged at our dock, with trailered boats put in the water at the local city dock and their vehicles and trailers stored at our home.
One of these loop trips had boats from Oregon, Michigan, Maryland, Carolinas and Virginia…
These are easy trips and can be modified, based upon weather. We would entertain aiding in another trip this coming season.
Lastly my photo album has photos of some of these specific trips.

Havre de Grace Marina at the Log Pond had a bunch of empty slips last time we stayed there (they told us to take any empty slip when we showed up). I believe that a number of marinas use the unoccupied resident slips for transients. Most places you are supposed to let the marina know that you will be gone so they can rent the slip to transients. In places like Chesapeake City the docks are free and 1st come/1st serve, but they don't have space for 15 boats all at once.

Summit North Marina on the C&D canal also had a lot of open slips last time I went by.

Of course, in the Chesapeake there are any number of coves and bays that could support a raft up.

Is it safe to assume there will be a mix? (Some at the marina, others anchoring out)

We could be interested in doing this if 'the Rona' shuts down our Alaska cruise in May for the 3rd straight year.
We would boat from our home about MM230 on the AICW.
