Hello, I purchased a 2014 16' Cruiser for my father last year. It came with a lot of extra stuff including this one random fiberglass part. I cannot for the life of me figure out where it goes or what it's for.

Any ideas. I'm tempted to just discard it but it's a really nice part. I'm beginning to think it doesn't go to the boat or trailer and was just left behind with the purchase. Any Ideas?

How big is it?

Might be a inside step for entering the boat (when climbing over the gunwale).

24W" x 14"D X 6"H

I thought the part was a gunwale step but i just doesn't seem to fit or make sense. The vessel already has a gunwale step (see photos), and this piece is just a little out of place.

The angle and slight cure in the piece also has be a little confused.

I kinda believe the part doesn't go with the boat because the color doesn't really match anything. It a light silver, and the boat's gelcoat is light beige and navy blue. I also doesn't have any hardware attached to it so it either sits on top of something or needs additional hardware that was never installed.

Does it fit the splashwell? If so, could be a shelf to place the Honda generator...

It kinda fits in the splashwell, that seems to make the most sense so far. If that was the case it would need some work to actually make it attach securely and even then seems too intricate for just a shelf.

Turn it over. Put your generator in it and secure it with a bungee.

I think it looks somewhat like a part that goes with the Barber-chair, sliding seat, as part of the backrest, but that doesn't go on a 16.

Did you send the same query to the guys at NMI and see if they recognize it. Could be a part off a SeaSport that just got laid down in the wrong place.

Maybe it is a cover for the wires and such behind the helm

I didn't think of that. There's already a white vinyl canvas piece attached with velcro to cover the wires and cables behind the helm, but this may be another piece for that. I'll give it a shot next time I'm at the boat

Talked to NMI today and they said they have never seen that fiberglass piece before and believe it went to something that the previous owner left behind. So that answers that.

Thanks very much. Always like to know, as Paul Harvey used to say, "the rest of the story".

Might it be a foot rest for a shorter person when they are at the helm, so that their feet aren't dangling?

I agree with NMI.

Ask the previous owner.
It's probably a piece of junk they wanted to get rid of.
You bought it. Now it's your junk.

You usually get what you pay for.
This time, you got more than you paid for.
Except, some of what you paid for is junk.

This kind of thing happens.
Like, it has for me with home purchases.

Only way around it is to buy new stuff, bran new.

Aye.
