I have been thinking on replacing my cable steering with Bay Star Hydraulic Steering. My mechanical steering is getting harder to turn each year .

Looks straight forward but I couldn't find some answers on this site. How will the helm control cylinder/ Steering Wheel added length effect my seating space on my 1985 C-Dory Angler. Is the wooden helm strong enough to hold the helm steering cylinder. Is there enough room by the motor to install everything. There are lots of discussions on this tropic but but I couldn't find any installation photo's of the Bay Star Hydraulic Steering installation on a 1985 C-Dory Angler.
Thanks Tug

Hi Tug. I have the same boat with Baystar steering system. The hub did move the wheel aft by a few inches but not really noticeable. Also I am able to tilt the motor up about 90% before the fittings hit the transom. Other than that it was a very straight forward install.

I can take pics when I am at the marina next and email if you like.

Hi! Chop and thanks. That's what I wanted to know. I didn't want to do any seat modifications. Tug.

Just put in the second baystar system my boat is a 2006 CC venture 23 The first one was leaking at the Helm and the transom cylinder was leaking and the SS had some scratches So I decided just replace the whole system It now steers effortlessly So hopefully this system will last 15 years like the last one .Jim

jennyKatz , I hope mine will last that long.
Does anyone know the splash well-dimensions on a 1985 C-Dory or better still , has anyone installed a Bay Star hydraulic steering system on a 1985 C-Dory Angler. It states that I need at least 32 inches to install the Bay Star steering system. I'm not sure where that number comes from but the Bay Star Cylinder/Ram is 21".
Thanks Remi

I installed the Baystar Hydraulic steering on my 86 Angler last spring. Originally I used the Baystar hoses, however my marine tech friend advised using the SeaStar hoses because they are heavier and I installed those.
The Seastar hoses had a factory connector on both ends, so I had to take up the little extra somewhere along the run. I was careful to follow the recommended minimum radius in the install manual for both hoses.

Very worth the upgrade.

Where are Sea Star / Bay Star manufactured. I originally thought they were made in Canada or the Usa. I was pricing Bay Star Hydraulic Steering on Amazon.ca and it say that Sierra Bay Star is made in China. Same product but country of origin is China.

This will work also work for a 22 foot 1985 C-Dory Angler.

Sea Star / Bay Star Plus Kit HK4500-A ( no hose ) Hydraulic Steering Kit:
Helm HH4514-3 1.4 cubic inch displacement
Ram/Cylinder HC4645-3
Steering Fluid HA5430
Filler Kit HA5438
Sea Star/Bay Star Spacer Kit H05090
Sea Star Hose Kit HO5120 or HO5122
I like the Sea Star hose way better than the Bay Star tubing. Look way more durable .

That kit is a copy cat chinese made kit. Not a BayStar product.
Before the Dometic purchase they were manufactured in Vancouver, the tech people are still at the same location.

I have a next to new Baystar Helm pump HH4314-3 that I replaced with a Seastar Sport Tilt.
I'd like to see it get put to good use, I'll consider any reasonable offer.
