Perhaps this is, and will, affect cruising conditions in the NW this summer, so thought it would be of interest.

Quote:
ATLANTA - U.S. weather officials confirmed the arrival of the La Nina weather pattern, a mild cooling of the tropical Pacific Ocean which can affect weather in parts of the United States, Asia and South America.

Forecasters at the meeting said the latest La Nina may last through the summer. La Ninas tend to encourage wet weather in the Pacific Northwest and dry conditions in the South, but NOAA forecasters declined to blame current weather on the phenomena.

Because the latest La Nina is only just starting to develop and is expected to be weak, forecasters at the NOAA Climate Prediction Center said it is too early to say how it will affect spring and summer weather

I'm thinking that we're already acclimated to this.....(read - no different that what we've had all winter). Rolling Eyes

Certainly glad we have the enclosed cabin of the C-Dory....YEAH! ...windshield wipers too!

On Sat , here in Eastpoint FL. I had a 2.25 inch chunk of ice [ I think its called hail ] hit my truck and dent the hood as I was preparing to deliver a new 22 cruiser to a customer . The day before we had a waterspout/tornado take 7 cross bay power poles out that deliver power to St George Island . Very interesting weather for this area . But the deep south always has interesting weather ! Never a dull moment lately..........

But there's a silver lining for those of us in the NW - La Nina=cooler ocean temps=generally better survival for salmon. Sorry Mr. Fisherman you might have to run farther for the Tuna but I'm hoping Aug 2006 is better than Aug 2005 for salmon!

The weird thing is we have had very mild temperatures this winter . Fishing should be good this year [barring H-canes] here in FL , I do miss Salmon fishing , Monterey Bay style .Thats where I have done most of my fishing .Wherever, If its fishing , its ok with me .
