|
|
I now have a Mercury 115 Command Thrust motor on order for my 22 Cruiser. I’m wondering what is a good prop size to use?
Thanks,

We have a cc23 venture which weighs at least 700-800 lb more we have the Mercury 115 CT we use a SS 14 3/4 by 17 pitch it takes it up to 5800 rpm. And about 33-35 mph My old engine was a Yamaha 115 with a 13 1/2 by 15 pitch You will be pleasantly surprised how well this engine (Merce)will work around the marina /dock etc _________________ retired 8/08 from UAL, still working pt tm

Midnight Flyer, my past 22, had the Mercury 115 4-stroke EFI. I ran an aluminum 4 bladed prop, 13 1/4 x 13. I believe the 3 blade aluminum was a 14 x 13, but I'd have to go find some old records to double check. Colby |

Thanks everyone for your responses,
Jennykatz the 700-800 LB more for your Venture might be like my 22 with 5 people onboard if 150 lbs each = 750lbs, or other equivalent of gear for heavier loads on my boat. Sounds like the SS 4 blade works best for your motor and boat. Interesting, the different size props between your 115CT and the Yamaha 115. When you said your Merc works well around the marina and dock, I take it that it has better control for docking and close quarter situations — that sounds nice.
Did someone recommend the prop you use, or was it trial and error to get the right size?
What brand did you go with for your prop?
Colbysmith, was the former Merc 115 you had on your 22 a Command Thrust model? Just checking to compare apples to apples.
Interesting that one C-dory and Mercury dealer recommended I start with a pitch of either 19 or 21 inches (3blade). He said you probably want to be around 5200 to 5500 rpm for a C-Dory. |

I don't think my Merc 115 was a command thrust. As for RPM's, I think it best you go with what the outboard manufacturer suggests for WOT when you test out your prop. |

I've had an '07, 22 Cruiser for 3 years -- Great Boat! C Brats great as well. But the Yamaha 115 died with 500hrs. Always easy to start, smooth idle, ok power, no oil use, regular 100hr maintenance, for 3 years anyway. Then the engine saver engaged and the oil light came on. Dry dipstick! Filled and changed oil ... She starts and idles well, still no oil slick, but ate two quarts in 1/2 hour at speed. Compression: 50, 75, 100, 150. Oil out the exhaustk two plugs with burned off tips. Not worth repair.
Ouch.
She came with a 13x19 aluminum three blade, and was never to get past 5,200rpm. Mechanic thought maybe a lugging engine wore it out, but really didn't know. When it starts, they can go to hell in no time.
Thoughts? |

I would buy a SS 3 blade 14. 3/4 or 15 in diameter by 17 pitch should give you 6000 rpm at full speed as you load it down your rpm and speed will come down
Our cc23
4000 rpm =20 mph
4500 rpm =25 mph
5400 -5800 rpm = 34 mph
Have fun the venture sweet spot is 4200 rpm at 22 mph |

Thanks for your prop data,
My motor just arrived at the dealer. Took about 3-4 weeks, I consider myself lucky. |
