This is a 'best deal ever' story that is hard to beat, so I thought I would share it with you.
My neighbor across the road saw an ad in the paper saying "crab traps for sale". He drove across town to meet the owner with a view to buying the crab traps. He was met at the door by an elderly lady who said that her husband had passed away and she was getting rid of his stuff. He bought the traps but also noticed a 16' C-Dory on a trailer in the rear yard. He asked her if the boat was for sale, she replied "yours for $1500 (Cad) if you take it away". The boat had an older 40hp outboard and a cracked front window, otherwise all in good shape. He bought the boat and towed it home.
Back at his house he had an older tin boat he used for fishing with a newer 40hp hanging on the stern. He swapped the outboards over and sold the tin boat with the older engine on for..........you guessed it......$1500 Cad.
So my neighbor ended up with a 16' C-Dory with a newer engine, on a trailer FOR FREE.
Before I could go out with him on the boat he moved to a cabin in Desolation Sound. I assume he fixed the window!

Whenever I read these kinds of stories I always hope the the "elderly" person was financially comfortable, in full possession of her faculties and not taken advantage of during a period of grief. |

I hope she was in full control of her faculties too. I do not know her and can only relate to the story as told to me by my neighbor.

I thought my brother-in-law and sister-in-law got the best deal ever on Crabby Lou, our CD 16 Angler. It needed re-powering and I gave them the family discount on the hull, which included GPS, VHF radio, a hand-make Alaska bulkhead made by Patty, and a Sunbrella cover, plus a few other things. But I must say "uncle," this deal beats all! _________________

Cool story Marty. I hope they both got happy with the results.
