Hello,
Heading to Chelan on Friday with the family. Going to put in and spend a night at 25 Mile, then on up to Stehekin Sat morning for a couple nights in the lodge. I had been told that the public docks at Stehekin were like the other Forest Service docks; first come first serve with the permit. But I've found a couple references online now, to various entities owning or having owned these docks, so I'm wondering if they're Forest Service? Every number I've found is disconnected.
Perhaps too late now to book moorage if I should have, but I'm curious: does anyone know who administers these docks, if moorage can be booked in advance, who to contact?
Thanks! |

It has been a while since I was there but, 2019 I think, I bought mooring passes at a hardware store in Chelan. I think there was a bundle of 5. Each one was good for one night at one of the park docks (I think those are National Park, or Forest service.) When I got up to Stehekin, I went into the lodge/restaurant/store/registration desk and paid for my moorage at the "marina" there. Turned out My moorage pass tickets would have worked there too. I'm sure there are times when reservations might be needed --- IF they take them. I was there pretty late Fall and the docks were nearly empty except for a group of really fancy, antique wooden runabouts. Super classics.
There may be some folks here who have more current info on Chelan. It is one of my favorite lakes.

I have never attempted to make a reservation at Stehekin, and would contact the lodge directly about that if you are concerned. Every time I have visited there was a first come first serve scenario. Expect smoke blowing over from the Methow, although it will probably blow in and out of Stehekin daily with the winds. You will be likely within 20 miles of a 50,0000 acre active fire to the NE. Not a danger in Stehekin at the moment, just something to be mindful of.
Stehekin is great but my favorite part of The lake is the fjord-like middle! Refrigerator harbor has room to run and stretch the legs, and can get you out of a blow. Domke falls is a great drive by, prince creek a great new dock and hiking into the hills (tie up on backside and be ready for ferry wake. Rattlesnakes like the path down low!). Safety harbor will be replaced I was told by the USFS manager in the area, but there is still no safe place to stop.
Have fun ! Chelan ferry boats are monitoring vhf now, but if you get in trouble from 25 mile and up through the straits call “llama ranch llama ranch llama ranch”. Not even kidding. |

Thanks all. We've done the south part of the lake once and are really looking forward to the north part and Stehekin (never been north of 25 Mile). I've been watching the smoke situation closely, but now with the new heat advisories in place we're starting to question whether this is the right weekend for this. I'm sure we'll lose some / most of our money for rooms at the lodge, but the wife is starting to balk at temps in the 100s with lows in the 80s and no AC. I've gotta say that doesn't sound super fun, but... we'll see.
Here's a pic I took of Chelan in the smoke tonight, descending into Seattle. Looks worse than it is, the Sound area looked about the same but the smoke seems not to be too thick at ground level... yet.
