Hello, especially Chesapeake Bay C-Dory owners.
In October I will be doing a tour of the Bay, playing music, and raising consciousness about the problems which beset this great estuary: pollution, overfishing, runoff, development..you all know the problems...everywhere.
I am a believer in grass roots action. So, I'm organizing a series of house concerts around the Bay for the period from October 12 to October 29, 2006. The tour will go about this way: Betterton, Havre de Grace, Baltimore, Annapolis, Solomons, St. Mary's, Potomac River, Smith Island, Ocracoke, Tilghman Island, Rock Hall....I especially need people to organize a house concert in Baltimore, Annapolis, Potomac River.
I will be accompanied by guitar players who are great...so it will be guitar and banjo, with harmonica, and good voices, singing songs of The Chesapeake, and related music. There will be good talk about the problems, and an attempt to get people to consider taking action on one of the issues..joining a group like Chesapeake BAy Foundation, or contacting your congressman, etc.
No charge, but a "pass the hat" collection will be given to a Bay related foundation at the end of the tour.
All costs are being borne by my non profit, The Mainstay...contribution, of course, are welcome.
We are not asking for sponsors, just groups to endorse the tour. And here is some good news: I talked to Jeff Messmer at C. Dory and C-Dory Marine is on board as an endorser. I'll be travelling on my 22..Sally's Sister, with the good ol Honda 90.
So, if any of you Chesapeake people could help by hosting an event, let me know...all we ask is a pot luck style event. We will come to you, by boat...if we can get close, great, if not maybe you could pick us up and return us to the boat that night.
The title of the tour is "Cherish The Bay"
If you have questions, or want to help out, write or call me at 410 639 7943. By the way, you could contact a local museum or library and they could host us also.
I have been a performer for 40 years, and my guitarists are all top level performers. I promise you a good evening of music...
I'd love to see a C Dory response to this..
Best to all,
tom mchugh...terraplane |

Sounds like a great cause, Tom. I'm in DC, so I can't host, but might be able to attend one of your events. I will say that if you could make is to my neck of the woods you would find a lot of support for your efforts. I'm in Takoma DC, right next to Takoma Park, MD, and there are many environmentalists among my friends and neighbors. Let me know more as your plans develop further.

Wonderful idea Tom, and I'd love to participate in some way. Good talking to you today -- I will pass on the information you send to my brother-in-law who works with the Chesapeake Bay Foundation. I wouldn't be surprised if they want to collaborate with your efforts.

Hi Tom,
You can sure count on Pat and I to attend some of your concerts. Pass the hat and we are always good for a dollar or two.
Looking forward to Langford Bay

Thanks to those who have responded, and the telephone calls too.
Our tour has set up six concerts to date, so we are off and running.
Our main purpose in writing here is to get help in setting up other concerts...not to seek any financial contributions...that is covered already.
I think this is a really nice opporunity to promote the C-Dory name in a new and different way...by focusing in a non-political way on our common problem: cleaning up the greatest estuary in the United States.
To any of you who are based at Cutter? Would someone like to sponsor a concert there?

Cool. One of the areas Bonnie Plant Farm may send me is the Baltimore area. Of course, the plant work is over end of Jun... I may have to be forced to drag up one of my boats and once again enjoy some the those NE waters....
Enjoyed our time on the west side Tom.

Ditto...one of the best things about my short time in Seattle was putting faces to all the names...
I particularly enjoyed our ride out from the show, and our joint libations with Terry in the apartment..drinking his NYS "home brew"....great.
This project is just a personal attempt to do something...and i just wanted to share it with this group, c.brats...
Yep, you should come on up...you can ride with us for one of the legs if you want...

I have had some calls, and a few responses here. If there is interest from any of our Chesapeake c dory crowd, please contact me here or at the telephone listed in an earlier post.
Also, this week should be the posting of the information for the Langford Bay gathering in June..Watch for it.

Hi Tom,
I don't think Cutter monitors the site - I've never seen a post from them. You may have to give them a call to see if they are interested in providing a location. Got your info and will forward it to my brother-in-law at Chesapeake Bay Foundation on Monday.
Best wishes, |

Thanks for the response. One of our problems here is that the various groups don't always communicate well. One thrust of this small effort is to get the endorsement of as many of them as possible..believe me, to have all their names on the same poster would be step forward!
When i say "development" i mean not only housing and construction, but the density of people here on the Bay.
We have had some success...restoration of Rock fish, improvement in Blue crab fishery, improvement in waste treatment, etc...
My small effort certainly won't make big changes...it is intended to just add to the positive efforts of others...
I'd like to hear from others out there..we are still shaping the tour.
