doesn't belong.

I bought two new hatches for the stern.

Removed the starboard one first, no problem. Removed the port one to find that the screws had leaked on the forward end, balsa core rotted. Grrrr.

The new port covers the screw holes so that shouldn't be a problem in the future.

If you have nothing to do, buy a boat.

That is one of the first things I did on SleepyC, way back when Joel was ordering them from the mfg by the case load. Worth every penny and the effort.

I've used an aquarium pump to blow air in after digging out all the wet core I could.
It doesn't need a big breeze, just enough to keep fresh air moving. Sunshine, a heat lamp or something to warm the surface helps too.

Based on what I read on this site, changing the lazarette hatches was the first thing I did to my boat when I bought it.

Nancy & Bud,
I did the job on my 22 and more recently on my 26. I had no rot around the 22 hatch, but some on the 26. I only had to dig out about 1 inch around the perimeter, wetted it out with epoxy, then used thickened epoxy to finis filling the void. I had to make up a bit of difference in the new hatch dimension, so did that with wood and epoxy.
I purchased my first set of hatches through Defender and the second set through West.
