Hello Brats,

Question about the fuel fill. My boat did not have a ground wire attached to the deck fill when I took it apart. My last boat did. I know the wire is to prevent a static spark from causing an explosion when filling up.

So, why no grounding wire on the deck fill of the c-dory?

My tanks are all plastic, including the filler neck. Not sure if that matters.

Thanks all!

Clay, "Most" fuel dispenser nozzles that are for public use are bonded (grounded) internally. However, that does not mean all static electrical sparks are prevented from occurring. Because our small boats are not required to have bonding throughout the vessel, the factory does not install this type of fire prevention system. Careful is the word, especially in the dry hot climate we are now experiencing!

On the 25 C-Dory, the fuel fills are aluminum, which as far as I know, don't spark, though they conduct electricity. I don't know about the 22, but I'm willing to learn.

With the grounded fuel nozzle, is there any chance of static electricity making a spark with the ungrounded fuel fill? I'm curious.

Yes, our 25 has a grounding wire. The screw was rusted so we replaced it and had to reattach the wire. Keep a couple lock nuts handy and dialectic grease. I dropped a couple nuts it’s as difficult reach in there.
