Dates now posted on WDFW website. It ain't pretty.
In 7 west, for example, no longer do we have the open seven days a week until the quota is met. We now get only 4 days in mid-May, 4 days in early June and 4 days in mid-June. So that means 7 west will be a zoo, exactly like 8-1/8-2 is every year.
Idiots run this state.

Well, you could be in area 13. No shrimp this year and no crab for the last 3 years, despite an abundance of red rock crabs. WDFW bases the total closure on Dungeness. |

Well, maybe not complete idiots. All these dates have pretty favorable tides. I suspect that is not by chance.
P.S. Mark, I think you should run for political office. Given that you believe that our existing government is attempting to destroy this country (your words in another thread), perhaps you can roll up your sleeves and help to turn things around. _________________ Sandy McKean

Mark,
Thanks for the information. We don't fish in Wa. but will certainly avoid using the launch ramps on those dates. _________________ Gary F

Ha! Some areas in the Puget Sound (like Elliott Bay near Seattle) only get 3 hours for the entire announced season! |

Shrimping is open in PWS from 4-15 until 9-15 with a limit of how many can you catch? I feeling pretty fortunate right now, since shrimping is one of my favorite pastimes on the water. |

I'm hoping they will be sampling, test fishing and using ramp counts to get a handle on the effort, confirm quotas and be giving us more dates in July and August. |

Remember when we used to shrimp all summer long in area 7 west? Yeah those were the days. Limiting to such small time windows means ramps are overcrowded and people making unsafe decisions to get their one chance. I've seen and experienced a few of those off Camano Island on some of those short days. Our last time out a very animated captain crashed into the state park dock sending his wife into the water, so he slams the throttle into reverse, powering into me and ripping the davit right off our c-dory. All completely unnecessary but goes with the territory on days like that. It's just chaos sometimes. _________________ 2007 22 cruiser sold 10/2021

Years ago I was out in 8-1/8-2 when a grandfather made a decision to overload his tiny lake boat (skiff), got swamped and capsized...his 13 or 14 yr old grandson drowned. This happened off of Camano Head and the weather and conditions were crappy for us in a 25. We heard the radio traffic, saw the USCG Dolphin helo race over us and drop the rescue swimmer. But too late. Sobering and sad. The Everett ramps were a zoo. That was the last time I ever went there to shrimp.
The SJ's were always good because the season was spread out so the pressure was lessened. Some weekdays you could count the boats [where we go] on one hand. We usually make a mini vacation out of it. 3-4 days up there with shrimping taking up maybe two mornings. Last year on day two, we were done by 10:00 hours, the numbers where that good.
This year I imagine Squallicom is going to be a zoo. |

yep it's official.. I hate you.. Really wish we could do the same here. I do not know why we are being restricted so much. having talked to some wdfw guys and some tribal guys the shrimp stocks are way up. catches are way up per pot? it makes not sense at all to cut these many days. It's not a science based decision from what I can tell. but very little at wdfw is these days. _________________ Thomas J Elliott

I'm curious.....
If the biologists at the WDFW aren't making their decisions based on science, in what realm do you think they are deciding? |
