I’m sure this is the equivalent of ask what’s the best oil to run or biggest tire I can fit. The dory I bought earlier this year came with optima blue tops (d34m 750 cca). Thing is they are 2012’s still holding steady at 12.6V. I want to get new batteries for piece of mind and am thinking of going with the same battery. Any reason I shouldn’t or would a $100 deep cycle be just as good?? Thanks! |

Optima blue tops are great batteries. Deep cycles are fine also and provide good service. I hate to say it, but this decision will come down to personal preference. I'm sure you already know the differences between all the battery types and their pros and cons so little reason to hash all that out. But there is one thing I have noticed with all my batteries since moving from the lower 48 to here, and that is batteries seem to last forever for whatever the reason if they are cared for. The only thing I can think of is it just must be the optimum temperature for longevity. I seriously just traded in a 2004 kirkland group 24 that was still perfectly functional because I bought a Duracell AGM (great price and warranty at batteries plus) for the same reason you are replacing yours - piece of mind.....I question whether that is smart economics and yet I keep doing it over and over again. It's probably stupid.....lol..... |

T.R., can we just be buddies already?? Perhaps I’ll just stick with the batteries I’ve got then. I’ll always be bringing a jump starter with me just in case anyway. |

I use Walmart EverMaxx dual purpose batteries in my boat. They are well rated in CR. I live in the mid Atlantic region and they seem to last pretty long. I have dual size 24s. Only one is used most of the time, the 2nd is reserved to help starting should the #1 battery have low charge (sometimes after running the house overnight).
Works well enough for me. |

I think Saturday will be very nice - especially in the Northern Sound. The shrimping was good 2 weeks ago in the usual places. Seemed like 500 feet was the magic depth then. I never can figure them out though! I'll be on the lookout for you, any idea where you are going? I'm hitting it Saturday - Sunday..... |
