Is it time to replace my anode?
I have picture of them in my photo album, for some raison I can’t attach to this post. It’s either something is not working or most likely it’s me that can’t figured out how top do this even though I have done it in the past. |

I would just because its off, also the one under the mount below the trim motor and the internal ones. |

Hope that helps. Lots of variations in computers, browsers and the ways the stars are lined up tonight. Basic with an HP laptop on Windows10, find the image you want in your album, Right click on it then left click to get a popup menu, that will have an option to "copy the image address". left click to do that, then go to the thread and right click to bring up another menu. Choose "paste", then highlight that address and go to the "Image" button in the row of buttons above the thread posting box, click there and should have an "img" at the front and "img/" after the address line. Click "Submitt" and then go to the "Preview" at the bottom of the page and click preview to see what you have.
See? Easy Peasy. (After a hundred times
I think the formula for replacement is when it has lost 2/3 of it's weight. Can't always tell by looks.

C-Wolfe,
Standard best practice for marine industry, including military vessels is to replace at 50% or less. Don’t forget that most outboard water cooled manifolds, also have zinc anodes to replace at the same general percentage. _________________ Steve Baum

Thanks Harvey, that look very simple... except, I use a Mac.
Thanks anyway, I’ll work on my picture posting skill soon. |

Is it by weight? (as per Harvey’s suggestion). I have seen some that were mostly gone, mine look rough but not much material missing. Might be a silly question but how can I figured out the weight of it new? Or will it be just easier to follow Tsturm advice and replace just because it’s off |

C-Wolfe,
Generally, the 50% guideline, is based upon a visual inspection. Additionally, sometimes zincs may look good, but are literally dust, sorta kept looking okay, by the other metals used in the anode, aside from the actual zinc alloy.
You can tap on a zinc with a small hammer, if it is questionable.
On our outboards, the zincs are good insurance, so if questionable, just replace it. If the manifold is off, I replace the internal ones, regardless of how much remains, just because pulling the manifold is a bigger job then a lot of the other general outboard maintenance. |

That anode is fine in my book. It's doing what it is supposed to do. |
