Early stages but I may be acquiring some lakefront property in a perfect TomCat area. Wondered if anyone keeps their boat on a lift. Anything special to keep in mind?

I keep mine on a Hydrahoist. It works well but I highly recommend you oversize your lift as Tomcats are heavy. I would suggest something near a 10k capacity, especially if you are like many C-Dory owners who tend to take along lots of toys & stuff.

I kept my Tom Cat on a 15,000#. I used two 2 x 10 on edge 0n each side. (These were salt water treated and dimensional lumber. I put artificial turf with Monel metal staples on the top of each board.

The bunks are currently set up as they were for the Tom Cat, and used for the Caracal Cat, but good good support to a C Dory 25 and a C Dory 22.

Here is a very early photo of the boat on the lift. I have kept this same "angle" stern down:

Over the last 8 years, our TC255 on a CAT truck scale with 10-20% gas and no water in 'heavy cruise mode' has weighed 8,500 -9,000 lbs on a 2,000lb trailer.

Since you don't want to limit your options, I would choose Bob's very wise choice of a 15K boat lift and be happy with the extra capacity!

Bob is right again!

Best,
John
