Anyone have a place in Seattle/Kenmore that they can recommend who can do trailer brake and bearing work? Ez-loader with surge brakes would like to look into replacing with SS disc brakes but at the bare min need to get the current brakes working..

Hey Roger, Give Gary Estes a call (http://www.garyestes.com). You can either take it to him in Issaquah or he'll come to you. He is a very good guy and a good mechanic. I've bought a bunch of trailer parts from him for my EZLoadr on the sled. He's always been very fair on his prices.

While recovering my boat at the San Diego trip we heard a rattling noise from the trailer. I had heard the noise from my window when going slow but thought it was the new adjustable reciever hitch I was using.

On further examination it turned out to be the disk brakes. Chris crawled under the trailer and found that the nuts holding the pins that the caliper slides on were missing! The caliper was only contained because it was locked in by the brake mounting plate and the wheel.

It was free to rattle around as I drove down the road. Chris was able to secure it with additional nuts for the drive home.

This is on a 2004 King tandem trailer. I took a look at it this Saturday and found that some damage had been done. The pads have uneven wear probably because at freeway speeds it was crooked on the disk and wearing. Worse is that the bronze bushing in the caliper body that slide on the pins were cracked and even a pice missing.

We are lucky it never got jammed at high speed and caused a major failure! From now on I will check these nuts regularly. Also I will not assume what a rattle or noise is and check to make sure.

Does anyone know if you can get caliper parts for the Tie Down calipers? I may have to just buy a new caliper. Any one else ever have this problem?

I also read in one of their PDF's that the pads are the same as a 1990 Chev Cavalier. So you might be able to get the bushing directly from Napa. My guess is they use the same caliper but have Stainless Slider Pins instead of the ones that Chevy uses.

Sorryu to hear about the trailer.

Champion Trailer has all the Tie Down and some other brands of trailer brake parts for the lowest price in the U.S. Here's their website address:
