|
|
So I found sea water under v berth. I put red coloring in water and poured it into locker then then vacuumed it out through plug used to put foam in .It was red
My boat is a 2007 25 ft cruiser
So I cut a hole in v berth and removed massive amounts of water logged foam. I could feel where the drain hole had nicked the void into the v birth
Any suggestions as to how to repair this drain? |

Epoxy putty. The drain hole in Journey On is drilled to the outside and it's a long way to the locker wall, but it could happen.
Sand the hole out, mix up some epoxy, add thickener, (carbon fluff) stuff it into the hole, use masking tape to hold the epoxy in place.

I epoxied in a plastic tube that connected the hole in the anchor locker to the hole in the hull to prevent water draining into the space under the locker. |

When I have had a similar problem, I filled the bottom of the locker in the following way: First cleaned and sanded out the lowest part of the anchor locker. Then painted epoxy on the side walls down below the hole which was drilled. Next I put a small square of 6 oz cloth saturated with epoxy at the bottom of the anchor locker (area of potential leak). Next filled the rest with peanut butter thick epoxy and smoothed the floor, to allow a sloped drainage to the hole. In the current boat there is a small platform of starboard (triangular shape with 1/2" holes drilled into it, to keep the rode and chain off the bottom of the locker. This allows the rode to dry out.
While you are at all of this--go ahead and remove all of the foam. There is a great storage area up there. You can put hatches, keep the cutouts of fiberglass, or make pkywood lids for this storage area. I keep an extra anchor rode, and storm anchor up forward. There is room for spare lines, extra life jackets etc. In our boat we have the Li batteries on one side and the 2000 Watt viltron inverter charger on t he other side in the after most part of the V berth. _________________ Bob Austin

So I put a 26 x 10 hatch in middle of berth area. Where to put additional ones?
On each side top. Or on each side where the pirtapotty goes?
Any photos anywhere showing what folks have done |

I just realized you have a 25, mine is a 22 so I’m not sure how comparable the 2 are. |
