Organizing my paper files and came across these so thought I’d post.

Couldn’t get them to post in here so added to my C-Dory portfolio album instead:

I enjoyed your photo album. An amazing collection of Cdory memories. Some models like the bowpicker I had never seen.

Thank you,

Rob

PS - if we could only buy one today at those 1983 prices.

I also reviewed all of the photos in the album and am amazed at the "rare" Dorys you have found. Thanks!

I was surprised by the "All up price" of the 2003 Tom Cat 24. I would have guessed it was less...

What a surprise, I found a reference to a Harvey Dory. They came from Harvey Marine, Aloha Oregon way back when. When I lived in Portland I met the original designer, Ed Harvey, and because of my name I got a free Tee Shirt, "Harvey Marine". Always thought that was cool, but back then I was doing sail and paddle craft.

Glad the album is providing some pleasure, it's fun to keep an eye out for rare or odd boats.

The Harvey Dory was the main alternative I recall my dad considering in the early 80's before he eventually bought the original High Tide (22' Angler/Classic). At the time we fished out of Deep Creek in AK and had to either go in and out of the small river mouth and across the bar (while timing the 15 - 25' tidal cycles of Cook Inlet) or beach launch/retrieve with a truck in the surf.

Both the CD and the Harvey offered a larger and more comfortable boat than what was then the typical small aluminum skiff being used. But they where still relatively light and the flat bottom made beach landing and dry loading still doable. Though the CD was slightly more expensive the enclosed cabin won out over the open Harvey for my dad. Both boats became popular there until a tractor launching service was eventually established at Deep Creek allowing for much larger deep vee boats to be launched/retrieved off the beach.

The Harvey is still revered in some places and I have seen ads for boats where complete restorations were done. If you want to go on a you tube journey there are many videos of the dory fleet and the beach launching scene around Pacific City OR where the old Harvey boats can still be seen. The beach launch issues and techniques remind me of Deep Creek back then.

This one has a Harvey appearance around the 45s mark, there are many other videos out there too: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F12mMZWCgJY

flatfish, Thanks for that post. Yes, Interesting boats and history. I used to live in Portland, spent many weekends at PC, and photographed dory launch and retrieves and Cape Kiwanda in many storm situations there. A spectacular Oregon Coast place.

It is a hull copy of the Kawanda dory with the cabin added.

My apologies for the hijack.

I would've guessed it was less too but still WAY CHEAPER than now! Lol. Ughhh..... It's crazy how expensive new boats are now.
