Although I have mentioned this company several times, it was not until this PM that I obtained the actual masks.

FILTI material was being made as inserts for other masks. Recently the company went form making sheet materials to a full 6 layer mask.

I do urge all people to mask. I have heard every argument against masking. I wear masks when in public for my own safety. I had a small supply of 3M N95 masks, which I was re-using and UV sterilizing between. Those were running thin, so I ordered the Filti masks which just recently became available. (Tanks to Alok, an other MD, C Brat (Ex Tom Cat), who let me know they were available.)

I apologize for the model--But they fit me:

Finally the spec sheet which comes with the masks. There is no "Government certification" of these masks, but this is a USA company, and the products are made in the USA, and were being used as base filtering material for other masks.

They are about $2 each. I ordered 50 for about $95.

Some people might want to use a little foam to get a better seal. Hopefully this will prevent some spread of COVID 19. The base is far better than any surgical mask I have used. No guarantee in any fashion. I will be wearing these at the Hontoon gathering.

Be Safe in the new year.

Bob, Thank you for that info, link and photos. Sounds like a worthwhile investment. And, no need for apologies.

Dr. Bob,
Thank you for your post, regarding the mask.
Are these mask more difficult to breathe through, then the 3M N95 mask?

I just ordered some. Their website was really slow, probably because they are doing a booming business. Hopefully all goes well with vaccines and newfound public common sense so that I end up using most them in the workshop.

I converted undergarment material (not mine) into a mask.
Even added another hydrophilic (absorbent) layer inside for
extra filtering. It's stylish, snug fitting.

See it in my WB Nod photo album as the last untitled as I
cannot seem to add a photo to a post yet.

I like Bob's N95 mask and the reference to the supplier. As
many herald mask wearing and social distancing, many also
omit or fail to demonstrate the importance of eye protection.

N.B.: our conjunctiva is a thin mucous membrane which covers
the eye and under side of the eye lids. It is a portal of opportunity,
like the nose and mouth, ripe for invasion by COVID-19.

Be safe out there - protect all your mucous membranes.

Any properly fitted mask N95 mask will. have increased some airway resistance. (See the Filti spec sheet above) Subjectively I believe that the Filti and the 3M N95 masks offer about the same resistance. The trick is to breath slowly. I don't find them "claustrophobic" in feel. Most of us will be wearing the masks for relatively short periods of time. Even in a medical setting, best practice is to take a break from the mask at least every 3 hours. (at least twice in an 8 hour shift).

Foggy's point is well made. If you are in any close setting eye protection is essential. Face touching is another method of transmission. Most medical personnel who are dealing with potential highly infectious patients will wear a full face shield. Some medical personnel are using external positive filtered air source, with full face or head sealed enclosure.

An ICU physician had been able to avoid infection for over 8 months. There was an elderly patient who was refusing intubation and a ventilator. Trying to convince this man that it was essential, the physician was within inches of his face, because of the patient's hearing disability. Despite a face shield and N95 mask, he was infected, as was his MD wife (non clinician) who was extremely ill. The patient died a few hours later, without intubation..

I also rely on my glasses for eye protection. I have some wrap around sunglasses which offer even more protection I will wear if I have to go into Walmart. Googles, and face shields are better, but rarely worn outside of a medical setting.

It is virus load X Time equals more likely infection. Reduce virus load (distance, mask, hygiene, not touching), and time of exposure to help prevent infections.

Hi Bob,
We were just talking about N95 masks today. I ordered one of there free samples today. Will see if I can wear it with little discomfort.
