I just finished reading “Artic Solitaire” by Paul Souders (2018, Mountaineers Books). I recommend this book for any C-Dory owner.

It is the amazing story of Paul, who takes his 22 foot C-Dory, over multiple summers, to Canada’s Hudson Bay, and beyond Latitude 65, all in order to photograph Polar Bears.

Unlike “River Horse” which is a difficult, serious read, “Artic solitaire” is an easy read, and he writes with self-deprecating humor. The pictures in the book of the polar bears and his C-Dory are fantastic.

After reading this book one comes away with the feeling the 22 foot C-Dory is all but indestructible. He really punished his vessel. He tells about grounding the boat multiple times and navigating through iceberg covered waters. I am alerted to the C-Dory’s haul toughness after reading this book. In the end, his boat, C-Sick, just keeps going.

I now feel that my own C-Dory, tucked neatly into its own locked boat shed, will last another 100 years, or more!

Even more amazing about Paul Souders, is that he gets in the water with Polar Bears. I understand he now has a 47 foot steel Ketch, but has been having issues with it.

Part of our motivation to move from a Ranger Tug, to my CC23~. Boats you can comfortably drill holes in (suitably overdrilled, undercut and back epoxied per C-brats), add stuff too, bump into things with. Solitaire was definitely a seat of the pants adventure. I have a goal to own, and read all the C-dory inclusive books. Artic Solitaire, River Horse, Halcyon (kindle version only i can find), America's Great Loop Aussie Style. If you know of others, please post. I have also repeatedly read a number of the great blogs and journals: The Anderson's Loop journey, LT Looper, Jonathan Arthur in Salty, etc.

So far you are missing the kitty one. Captain James from Wild Blue, about their cat that boated with them for several years. Great read. Sorry, I don't have more info on it, as I gave it to my family to read and it has developed a life of it's own.

I'm sure there are some here who can come up with the correct info. It was both print and "e" verions.
