Se if you can find a Factory service manual to download on line or pony up at your local dealer , it will have step by step procedures to replace your seals. Good luck on your project |

I went to the local Suzuki dealer and asked how much it would cost . He told me that they had never changed seals on a Suzuki 70 hp so i decided i would try it myself. I'll try looking into he service manual and do it myself. Thanks for the suggestions. Tug |

Tug, are you changing the seals because of water in the gear case? If you do have a water problem, it could be caused by re using the drain and add oil plug washers. I've been told they have to be replaced every time they are removed. At least that's what the dealer tells me ever time I buy gear oil. |

davidj..you may be right. Last month when i winterized my C-Dory i was expecting to find fishing line tangled around my propeller and a milky colored gear lube oil but there was none. Everything looked good. I will send away for new plugs and washers and put them in next Spring and see if that fixes the problem . You may of saved me a job that i wasn't looking forward to doing. Thanks . Tug. |

You should pressure test the gear case. The procedures are in the service manual. A service manual would be a good investment. _________________ Jody Kidd

On the Honda 150 there are 3 sets of seals: waterpump and drive as well as the prop output shaft. I did the first 2 seals, as they can be changed with just the lower end dropped. However, the prop shaft had to be pulled. Since i didn't know what that entailed (re-shimming?) I let a shop do it.
The moral of this story is to find out what need to be done and decide if you're up to it, or you should farm it out.

A good source of exploded diagrams and parts is "Browns Point Marine". You need the serial number of your motor to get the exact part. They have most parts in stock and are great to deal with. They are in New Jersey so if you need to call, time appropriately for Eastern Time zone. _________________ Bob Austin

Ditto on Browns Point Marine Service. I use them on the west coast for parts on my Suzuki. Their outboard parts list diagrams are excellent to ensure that you are ordering the exact part you need for your Suzuki. The parts have always come to my front door undamaged and exactly what I ordered in a timely manner. They are the best! I will only use them. _________________ Gary F

I am familiar with Browns Point Marine , that's is where i ordered an impellor kit a few years ago. I used to have a friend that worked on my Suzuki and put the impellor in my boat, but he no longer years in my province.I will check their site for the correct part numbers. Canadians used to be able to order parts in the usa and have them shipped to a usa border town and then cross over to the usa and picked them up . Since the C-19 pandemic all the borders are closed. I will see if i can get the gear lube fill and drain plugs and washers some where in Ontario. I made up a leak pressure tester BUT if they are inexpensive i will buy one also. Thanks Tug. |
