We are driving down from Vancouver BC to the C-Brat factory do on Saturday. Does anyone have any tips on a good way to get to the on water part of the Boat Show and then to the factory other than I-5 which will probably be pretty congested with the game traffic? Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. I don't know why, but I hate the thought of doing the I-5 shuffle along with 20,000 other vehicles if I can avoid it.
Thanks

NO.. Sorry but the only way to the boats afloat show is down I-5 or 99.both of which will be a pain with the game. The only thing I can think of is when you leave the boats afloat show take 520 to the east side of lake washington then south on 405 to the factory. Other then that ,bring a lunch. _________________ Thomas J Elliott

According to the SBS website,
DIRECTIONS FROM HWY 99 SOUTHBOUND: Take the second exit after south end of Aurora Bridge. Go south on Dexter to Mercer (about 1 mile). Turn left on Mercer and go east until you reach Fairview Ave N. Turn left on Fairview and you're at the show.\
I think if you google this, you'll find that it crosses I-5 quite a bit North of where Qwest Field House is.

It is true you could take 99 south but I wouldn't suggest it. Take I-5 southbound, take the Mercer St Exit, stay in right lane. The exit winds down to Fairview Avenue. Take a right on Fairview, get in left lane, take a left at first light (driveway leading to Chandlers Cove, where Hooters is) and you're at the Boats Afloat Show.
If you leave while the game is underway, you can take I-5 all the way down without much problem. If the game ends at 5:00 pm, traffic probably won't clear out until after 6:00. It's easy to get back on I-5 using Mercer Street. Otherwise, as Tom said, you can go across the 520 bridge and go down I-405 southbound.
Good luck and looking forward to seeing you'all.

Thanks for the tips folks. It sounds like we best time our visit to the floating show to arrive well before game time and leave during the game. If my timing is out I'd better have packed a lunch and a six pack of patience!
Looking forward to meeting folks at the factory open house.

Richard,,,,,
I think they're talking about the in-the-water part of the show, which, according to the SBS website, goes on through Sunday, despite the 'Skins beating the 'Hawks ballgame on Saturday and the Qwest closing of the show on Friday night...

Look forward to meeting you, Ron - we never did get that chance to hook up in the Gulf Islands, I'll bet a pair of Cabernet CD25s, or a trio if David had been able to join us, would have turned a few heads! Oh, well, whatever boat we have in 2006, lets plan on hooking up somewhere between Birch Bay and Vancouver this year!
I have nothing to contribute on the original question, I-5 in Seattle is going to be a nightmare pre- and post-game on Saturday, I agree that rather than try different routes, I would just plan my timing to avoid the game traffic, and to get to Boats Afloat as early as possible and leave while the game is still going.

Are you trying to tell us something here Pat? "whatever boat we have in 2006 indeed." You sneaky devil you... I would still like the old boat if you don't give it to Ole. He told me you don't acknowledge his existance after what happened to your other brother Sven in the Orca fishing incident... I know you didn't mean to push him, those things happen....
As for the afloat portion, I plan on going on Sunday, the website says it's still open SAT, Jan 14: 10 am - 5 pm and SUN, Jan 15: 10 am - 5 pm . It should be a quiet day in Seattle after the 'Skins whup the 'Hawks.. |

Who are the skins and why would they want to whup a few hawks? Don't birdwatchers get upset with whatever the skins are? -- naive in Seattle _________________ El and Bill (former live-aboards)

Pat,
It would have been great to meet up with 3 Cabernet 25's! Would have been a site alright! Looking forward to meeting you on Saturday. Depending on how things work out we may be able to take you up on the Brewery and falls tour. We'll let you know as plans firm up.
Cheers
Ron

Halcyon Bill, you bet we bird watchers get ticked when clothes-less outsiders ride into town harboring nefarious designs on our city's most muscular, well publicized bird.
That's why Saturday, after four quarters of squawking and pecking, the skinned ones will streak home, their seasonal migration ended. |

Ouch?
I can't believe "Redskins" still exist in this PC world -- maybe we'll be banned someday -- but until that day -- to whom have them Hawks lost this year???? We all wanna know |
