Our smoke detectors went off twice during the night despite all windows closed and the air handler turned off. Fortunately, they stopped both times without me having to climb a ladder at 2 am. We can barely see across Dewatto Bay (1200 feet), but nothing across Hood Canal.
This morning I went to the marina where I keep my trawler. I went into the engine room and within a few minutes that smoke detector went off. While I pulled out the battery, the other one at the aft end of the engine room went off. Walking back up the gangway to the shore caused a little burning in the lungs. Time to stay inside and take it easy.
A rain dance is required but it would take too much exertion.

We had a REALLY bad day last week in Okanogan county. I was relaying information on hotspots to people up on sawtooth ridge, Chelan, loup loup pass, and around the Methow as reports came off the McClure HAM repeater. No lightning that day, just high winds and extreme conditions combined with negligence and possibly foul intent (the jury can decide). Fortunately all the hunters I was in communication with made it home safely. Others were less fortunate in Bridgeport and last night the ridge across the river from Brewster exploded around sunset. Looks like Oregonians are getting hit even harder! Pretty nasty air in the inland and coastal northwest. Really hope all you Northwest C-brats are safe and out of the path of these fires! |

Nigil, Thanks for your help there. Glad you could do that. I just got a text from a friend in Walla Walla, and she said they reported visibility there in yards not miles.
You all stay safe, inside, windows closed and AC on recirculate. Or get out the respirator masks, you know the ones with the external filter disk packs.
