Hi Kirk,
Fun little tool to play with when comparing motors.
In the test, I noticed the Suzuki 140 uses more fuel at 6K rpm than the Suzuki 115 motor but at 4K, the Suzuki 140 has an increase of .3 gph in fuel savings over the 115 motor. This may be due in part to the redesigned air intake manifold set-up among a number of other changes over the 115 motor.
Keep up the research. Much to learn out there! _________________ Gary F

Yeah, I thought that was interesting as well.
I like the 140 a lot. But we have chosen to go with the Yamaha 150 and a Yamaha 9.9 kicker. yes, it's heavier. I don't want it for top speed in a C-Dory obviously.
I like the idea of lower RPM running. Meaning maybe a little more quieter than a 140 but probably a mute point. Pun intended:-)
I've read the 140 leans to the weaker side of the HP range and the 150 Yamaha to the upper end. Lots more torque. I'm just in the mindset of having a little extra power when needed would not hurt. I'll give up a little fuel usage but not much, I've been told they are pretty close unless you're out running WOT all the time. Then I guess you can afford it.
Lower PRM's always better for an engine in my book. Again, probably a mute point. All these engines are so good these days. I Used to work for Yamaha a long time ago and there is a little loyalty there:-)
As far as weight to power ratio I still think the Yamaha has a slight advantage in the power category. I think the Suzuki is a great motor for sure. I find no faults with it at all. I'm thinking better serviceability in Canada and Alaska with the Yamaha.
Believe me, I'm on the fence daily between these two engines:-) We've worked out all the details and deposit funds are on the way to the dealer. We feel extremely blessed to be able to purchase a new boat. Of course we'll selling our house too, buts that's a different story...haha.... |

I saw a 140 on the back of a 22 in Seward last time I was there. I bet it really scoots. It also probably pushes the boat well past speeds the engineers ever had in mind. But whatever...I had to do a double take....I was like what? And then like yeah that's a 140.....and then damn.... |

Kirk,
Nothing wrong with buying new. This will be a boat to enjoy for years to come and done just how you want it.
Great choice on the Yamaha.
Hope to see you on the water sometime. |
