Cool boat, but not nearly as cool as the new boat that C-Dory and another manufacturer, not to be named yet, have collaborated on. Jeff showed me the drawings and spec sheet of the not quite finished boat that will be unveiled at the Seattle show. Hold on to your socks. |
The mystery boat won't be rigged and finished, but Jeff said the hull, topside, and liner will be completed so that potential buyers can get a feel for the size and layout.

Got my tickets to the SBS today - thanks Jeff - and there was a nice letter from Jeff stating that in addition to the C-Dory and Skagit Orca line they will also debut "our C-Ranger Tug line of inboard diesel boats. The C-Ranger line includes the all new 21' and 25' tug. Come see these exciting new boats."
I assume that many others got similar letters in the mail today. Since there was no mention of confidentiality on the letter, I think the cat's out of the bag. Sounds like it should be a fun and interesting time for all.
Best,
Roger on the SeaDNA

Well...now that Jeff has discussed the "Mystery Boat" in public, I'm comfortable chiming in here.
I'm not privy to all the details, but I have seen some sketches and chatted with Jeff as well. I probably got about the same story Minnow did.
Assuming Minnow and I saw/discussed the same thing, he's right...folks are gonna dig it.
Sorry to be such a tease, but that's all I've got to say on the subject. I ain't ruining any surprise C-Dory may have in mind...
On edit...
Well heck...looks like things are out of the bag. _________________

Well now that the topic is moved and I don't have to worry about stepping on toes. : I too saw the line drawings a bit ago, when I was talking with Jeff. And they looked pretty darn cool. I didn't want to give it all away either. It will be a very cool show, and I can't wait to see this new line. I always have a thing for outboards on boats, but I'm sure these little cruisers will be quite impressive. And will find a good following as well.

Is this going to be a cross between the c-dory and the ranger tug? http://www.maplebay.com/page91.htm the ranger tug is a trailer able long range tug but has almost no cabin and it’s slow. Some one call the catman, this maybe right up his alley. By the way I have not seen Brock post in a while.
A long c-dory style cabin on the ranger maybe just the ticket for the patient long ranger gas misers (spell check please) That want to cruise to Alaska. _________________ Thomas J Elliott

Daxx, my wife doesn't like to go fast. Don't think I'll show this to her.
She's a sailor at heart, slow and quiet... Her boat is a 22ft raghauler...
Looks sweet though, can't wait to see her at the show...

WOW! It's pretty neat being associated with a forward looking, dynamic, don't stay-in-the-lines company! Jeff has done a very good job comparmentalizing his information cells, which only now are coming out of the closet. Jeff, do you have prior experience in the intelligence community?
So, does The Thing have twin hulls and can we max the HP to 400 with just a little modification?
Seriously, really looking forward to seeing the new sibling.

This sounds very interesting. Having been on one of the "Ranger Tugs", I would imagine a cross between the Ranger and C-Dory would be a great match.........ESPECIALLY, if they took that Yanmar Diesel out and installed a CUMMINS DIESEL Yea! LOL!
Picture this....cruisin' down the road in the Dodge with the Cummins Diesel, towing the C-Ranger with the Cummins Diesel...what a pair.... _________________ Dave S.

How about sharing some of the specs? Engine hp? Cruising speed? And will it be trailerable ("Nordic tuggish" would suggest NOT to me...)

Pat-
I've seen one of the Ranger Tugs on a trailer, and looked it over pretty good.
It's a nice looking boat and shares a lot with the design of the C-Dory, at least in syle. But its not a performance boat at all with the diesel.
In my opinion, it's more of a cute novelty boat designed for cruising around the harbor in stlye than going out into the serious weather in the bay or ocean. Even the cabin and cockpit layout are for fair weather touring and not serious cruising or fishing.
If the C-Dory is a Pocket Yacht, the Ranger is a Toy Tug.
It will be interesting to see what kind of a hybrid hatches as an offspring of the mating.....................?
