On the bright side, their Austrailian boat brand aquisitions might bring some fresh boat designs to north america!

Saw this today. Instead of competing with Mercury they are choosing to be a client of Mercury. Which is a really good idea. Many would have fought it out with Mercury and tried to undercut the others price until one went bust Or used inflated boat prices to cover the cost of the boat. I like this idea better. Only one company has to fire people but thats better then competing down to the last dollar and maybe taking down both companies. it is sad that a company that has been around since 1909 is now gone.

Mercury is still owned by Brunswick, I believe.

I wonder how Evinrude will keep up with parts and warranty work now that they are no longer building these engines .
My friend bought an older boat with a 200 HO E-tec motor Great running no fumes and very good power . He just put the boat up for sale so hope he can sell Jim W

The company, previously known as Bombardier Recreational Products, bought the Johnson and Evinrude brands in 2001 from bankrupt Outboard Marine Corp. That company once had plants in Milwaukee and Waukegan, Illinois, with a combined 800 employees.

Evinrude has been around for 113 years. All of the outboards I owned until 1984 were Evinrude. I suspect that there are a number of parts around, but with their changing technology thru the last few years, there are going to be specialized parts which will run out, and then it will be either someone builds or rebuilds them, or the motors are used as parts donors.

I suspect that dealers will sell at cost or below now to get stock moving.

I guess the ages-old classified ad will die with Evinrude:

Wanted: Man with bass boat seeks woman as partner for outings, marriage possible. Must have Evinrude motor. Enclosed is picture of boat, please send picture of motor.

I just can't see that same ad with a Honda motor. Actually when I asked my daughter what she thought of the joke, she said, "Daddy, what is a classified ad?". Golly, I'm feeling old today!

I still have an old 1980 Johnson 4 hp for my dingy
Is that owned by Evinrude? I am still able to get some parts for it (others not)
They must have had a big inventory for a number of years.

A few years ago I sold my 1982 angler with the original Johnson 70 still going strong! Good engines.

I just love my new 75 hp Etec! Best motor I have ever owned! So light, reliable fuel efficient and snappy!

A guy I work with rebuilt an old Evinrude(1950's) a few years ago. He found a supplier that had all parts he needed. I believe it was on the west coast somewhere. I could see if he has the name of company if you want.

Regards.

That 4.5 hp Evinrude was one of the best engines I have ever owned. (basically the same engine as the Johnson 4 hp). The Evinrude, Johnson and OMC engines were all made by the same OMC corp, just different cowls.

They were simple engines, Parts are still being made and stocked by outside contractors. When you get into the 30's parts get harder to get!

Here is a link to the 1982 4 hp Evinrude parts list and diagrams.
