Hope this info is of use to someone. I bought my boat 2 years ago and never have gotten it in the water. I got a simple no brainer policy with progressive for $297 and the boat sat in storage till now. Unfortunatly since I didn't know if I was going to sell it or not i let the policy relapse over a month, so let me tell you insurance companys do not like that and when I went to reinstate it they doubled my rate to nearly $600..what the f....I have spent most of the last week getting quotes from nearly every company I could think of or find on this website. I finally found a real gem. Global marine insurance agency in traverse city Mi who quoted me a Chubb Recreational Marine policy that was exactly what I wanted including agreed value and high coverages in every dept for $328 per year. I am extremely pleased and hope this might save some body some time navigating the Insurance BS out there. I also understand the obsession C dory owners have with their boats. It is a lot lot like a relationship with a women After having looked for 5 years and kept her for 2 years I have spent the last month really getting to know her, believe me I had no idea what I was getting into or how much it would cost in time, energy and emotions. The learning curve is something I have never experienced before. At this point (and I have not even had her on the water yet) I am so far in I can't ever see leaving her without really getting screwed so it looks like I may be stuck in this relationship for life

Surprised at your experience with Progressive, I've insured 13 different motorcycles with them and my current C-Dory. They have always been competitive. I had two motorcycle claims and they didn't increase my rates.

Glad to hear you found something that worked for you.

Some have called a C-Dory the most expensive mistress in the world. Very Happy

-- It is not so easy to "easy does it" is it? Perhaps I should buy your C-22, store it here in Boulder City, and not use it? I have a nice little Gregor tinny with a brand new never run Mercury 8 HP that after I got it all set up to boat Mead and Mohave, have not put in the water even once (I have bought three AIS stickers because you never know when you might want to go boating). I also have a two windsurfers that have not been in the water in 15 years, an 18' touring kayak that has only been wet in our pool in over 15 years, a top of the line full race rigged Naples Sabot that I have never sailed, and I do not swim in my pool.
-- How much would it cost me to take on another "Boat Queen"? I can come up tomorrow but not after that for a bit as this weekend I have to go work for a week on our other house that we do not use anymore because the weeds are covering the 8 acres designed for the horses I do not ride (nor thankfully support either) anymore have become "Weed Haven".
-- I would gladly offer you cash plus a nice small aluminum boat/trailer, two windsurfers, a Naples Sabot, a great kayak, a gun safe full of air rifles and pistols, and perhaps about some of the man toys in the other safe. Heck, I may go into the 24' race car trailer with no race car in it and find two for three truck loads of other man toys I do not use. Need a large Honda generator? How about nine shovels?
-- I see you live in Southern Utah. Do you have a cabin we could swap to our 4000 SF ranch house and acreage next to Joshua Tree National Park? How about a nice little almost ten acres on an island in the California Delta with hundreds of feet of frontage on the San Joaquin River (deep water and you can build a dock for your new home - keep your new boat at your new dock).
-- All this a bit tongue in cheek but in truth, we all here at the C-Brats Forum likely have some shared traits. I am serious about needing to buy a C-Dory, I have been a "lurking only member" for so many years here that Captain Jim (formerly of Wild Blue) no longer thinks I can even swim much less boat.
-- May you have a great day. If nothing else, invite me up or come on down and we can boat either Powell or Mead. Gas is on me!!!

Wow, Bob! You sound like my kinda guy, we will definitely have to get together sometime, maybe on our way to Lake Havasu City where we will find a house with an long RV garage to store the boat I have never used. Windsurfers, of course that's what I need...did I tell your about our condo on Maui we bought last October and I have never even been inside, of course they have cancelled 2 flights because of covid and who wants to quarantine in an empty room. I am just now trying to fill the SUV (we don't use because I sold the travel trailer we never used) with stuff for the thrift store donation. Why is it so painful to load the 6 camping stoves and 18 canisters or the down sleeping bags and the 3 backpacking tents? Could you use a set of 20' jumper cables? I have 4 of them. or a collection of chain saws I don't know how to operate. Did I mention the cross country skies, skate skies etc goodness man we are only 76 I only bought the C Dory as a platform to use the 5 kayaks and 2 sup's we hauled down from Oregon and just today some fine gentlemen on my other post suggested I not take them out to lake powell next week. You should be proud of me I did sell our 6 acres on Andros Island in the Bahamas we owned for 50 years, we did go there once. I made some local girlie here very happy for $10k. I will get back to you after our lake powell trip delayed for two weeks to fill my meds before we leave. Thanks for post, I am getting better I do not go to thrift stores and buy my own stuff back anymore

I wouldn't know much about boat insurance, but having a boat (that you use) is really good mental medicine. I'd call that sanity insurance. Worth every dime.

Sorry about your lapse. Sometimes that happens.

I enjoyed your reference to C dory ownership and marriage. I have noticed as a veteran owner and C brat follower for many years that we folks spend a lot of time and energy either trying to protect and repair our little boats or “customize” them into something they maybe were never intended to be. If I had a dollar for every night I laid awake worrying about balsa rot, how to add a/c, spider cracks in gel coat, instruments that quit working and motors that smoked, coughed or quit I’d probably have at least a $100 dollars. Lol! Don’t let this get you down. Back when I was a Cdog I once posted “ what are we worried about, these boats will be around Long after we’re gone. That was 20 years ago and I wish I would have followed my own advice and either relaxed and enjoyed boating or bought a different boat that was built to handle the things I thought I needed. Yeah, like a marriage.

This has been a hoot to read! Even the duplicate post seems to fit. It went really well with the morning coffee - thanks!
