1st trip out in our Pura Vida and 1st experience boating for that matter, you learn fast! Thanks to all the folks that answered our questions and helped us get started!! Almost everything happened and we were lost most of the time but no harm done and it was beyond our wildest expectations. We are hooked and after a 2 week break heading up to strawberry res, flaming gorge, coulter marina july 15-22 and Yes even Yellowstone July 22 to 29. Let us know if anyone will be around.[/img]

Hi Easy,
It sounds like you guys had a wonderful time at Powell, especially for first time boaters, first time visitors, first time EVERYTHING!

Did you happen to keep track of the canyons, arms, places you visited?

I had heard it got quite windy a few of the days you were there. Were you guys affected much by the wind?

Anyhow, wishing you the best on your next adventure in a couple of weeks.

Also, I hope you don't mind me taking the liberty of posting a few of the pictures from you album here in the thread.

thank you, we had no trouble with wind except on the last day my map blew out the window so I will have to reconstruct our trip. Towing kayaks does not work but the hully rollers on our crossbar on top and the roller bar on the p.v.c. pipe i made over the engines (see album) worked very well for getting them up there on top. Flaming Gorge is like a more intimate lake powell experience and then on to Colter Bay Village Marina (not coulter) near Jackson Hole and the Teton Mts. the waiting time for a slip is 20 yrs but you can rent by the night for $30 and then at Bridge Bay Marina on Lake Yellowstone is $28 pn I am really pumped!

Just a heads up for you, based on experience driving cruise boats on Jackson Lake and Yellowstone: the transient slips at Colter Bay do not have power, and are end ties. Between Jackson Lake and Yellowstone Lake, I think Jackson is much more scenic. Rock bottom, so watch yourself in shallow areas.

The docks at Yellowstone have power and water and are very nice. Both places rent small powerboats to anyone with a credit card, so keep your head on a swivel as you come and go from the marina.

Nights can be chilly at either, since you are at around 7,600' at Yellowstone, and 6,800' at Colter Bay. Going from memory, so those elevations may be off a bit - but they are significantly higher than Lake Powell, so expect less performance from your motor at those higher elevations.

This will be your view coming out of Colter Bay...

Sunrise, my favorite time of the day there.

Powell is such a magical place - we have been there four times, in 2008, 2009, 2010, and 2014. We need to get back there again!

Baxter loves the place too! Here he is in 2008, "Baxter Barrett Anderson, Dog of the Desert"!
