Any advice on the best deck pipe/anchor hawse or where exactly to place it? I do not have a windlass and don't plan on getting one. I figured I'd just put it off-center and over the locker but the whole idea makes me nervous. Putting a hole , even one that has a cap, into the bow deck seems bananas.
But I am so tired of having to drag up my rode in a bag, hook it to the anchor, put on the zip-tie, and then having to un-do that to shove off! Twice I've had to pull the anchor in not-great conditions and the extra process was nerve wracking. I knew better than leave the deck hatch open but it was a drag.
Also, any suggestions on improving a night attached to a mooring buoy would be appreciated. Next time I'm going to look at looping through the winch ring thing instead of the bow cleat.
Thanks all. Hope to have some time soon to post this springs trips so far.
Here's a good one of my daughter at the helm off Sucia Island in April.

There have been different size deck pipes also--from on the size of the photo down to one about an inch in diameter.
I would offset the deck pipe, so it is not right in the line with the anchor pulpit. You should do a slight undercut of the balsa core and fill with thickened epoxy before setting the deck pipe in place. Same with the screw holes--best to overdrive slightly--do a little route out, fill with thick epoxy and then new pilot house in the epoxy plug. 4000 or 4200 to seal in place. I like the deck pipe large enough to get a hand into, incase there is a tangle of the anchor rode. _________________ Bob Austin

OK. Thanks for the image. It looks like the slot is wide enough to accommodate a link from chain also.
Maybe they are usually. This is the first 19' Angler hull, so they probably did some things different later on. |
