While investigating the C80/E80 systems as a possible Christmas/Birthday/Anniversary/retirement present, I discovered to my dismay that it appears one cannot download waypoints to a PC - either directly or via flash card, and manipulate, add, delete, or otherwise fine tune them on the PC using the far more convenient keyboard.

Garmin does it easily.

Lowrance does it - and even adds the capability of recording entire trips or just segments of the bottom scan (Glory holes etc) to savor afterward at home or to provide major gloat material for a fisherman gathering.

RayMarine support says they do not have the capability.
RayMarine marketing says "Look to Navionics, probably at the January Miami show."

So please enlighten me, C series RayMarine owners. Is aftermarket software available? It seems to me that this is a major missing feature. What say you owners?

I know that they were supposed to come out with something and I just went to RayMarine's site and found a walk through tour for the E-Series that states that you can get the RayTech 6 Navigation Software to program them. Of course I couldn't find any information on this software so who knows how much or when it is going to be available.

Razz Thank you uncle_otto !

That should work perfectly for the all important transfer of waypoints from the scribbles in my notes to the new system.

Goes to show you, if ya need good info go to the C-Brats first. I can't believe that two supposedly knowledgeable Raymarine reps and one West Marine electronics guru didn't know that little beta file existed.

It's rudimentary but it does the job! I'm amazed that they don't take better advantage of all that available data.

And remember don't use your navionics chip for back up. I'm sure you know that though. Smile

Pat,

I have been looking at Coastal Explorer as a future upgrade and it would surprise me you couldn't export and import waypoints and things like that. Is there no option for exporting and importing from Coastal Explorer?

Hey, Thanks!

I have all of my C80 waypoints archived to a CF card, but have not done anything with them. This will allow me to manipulate them and all of my hundreds of routes on my Garmin from earlier times!

Yes, absolutely - Coastal Explorer exports routes and waypoints in maybe five different formats - but neither the Raymarine archive format nor Excel is among them...The more I use Coastal Explorer for planning, the better I like it. I sure wish I could then get the routes and waypoints into my C-80. Guess I will have to bug the Coastal Explorer folks some more about that...

Copy a route to a spreadsheet

From the Coastal Explorer FAQ.

The Coastal Explorer to spreadsheet - convert spreadsheet to Raymarine archive format - copy archive to compact flash - exchange chip in Raymarine - read archive file in Raymarine - put chart chip back in - is still a clunky way to have to do this, even assuming the CE route copied to the spreadsheet would not be too hard to reformat to PCWaypoint requirements. But you're right, the data can be gotten out, I had forgotten, I was just looking at the export menu options. I had done it once before, I think I looked at Route Details, then did a Ctrl-A "Select All," and a Ctrl-C "Copy," then pasted it into MW Word or something before, where it appeared as a table. It would just be nice if there were a more convenient way, as it is truly simple with Garmin chartplotters.

Rose Point Navigation: ie: Coastal Explorer, is exhibiting at the SBS. Might get some answers and at the least we'll be able to give them some input on the need for a Raymarine/Coastal Explorer handshake protocol.

Rose Point seems to be truly interested in continuing to make upgrades on Coastal Explorer and here we have a prime opportunity for them.

See you at the show! Go Hawks!
