Hey all,

I have searched past threads so forgive me if this has been covered. I could not find the information I am looking for.

I have 2005 25’ cruiser and tomorrow I am going to cut the v-birth open and begin replacing the water tank. It looks like my available hight and width is about 13”x16”.

Questions:
What can I expect when I cut it open? Is the tank right behind the bulkhead?

What tanks have people installed? Brands? Dimensions?

Has anyone replaced the tank before? Did you pull it out through the back or top of the enclosure?

If we want to go 8-10 days without having to fill up, what size tank should I install?

On my 2003 the tank is right behind the bulkhead(?) and is foamed in place. Another lovely mess. I did not replace mine just tightened a fitting. Thumbs Up

We also have an '03 I have opened up the v-berths with storage hatches and dug out all the foam, the water tank is just in front of the bulkhead. You probably will have to cut the v-berth above to remove the tank, newer 25 have the water tank in the stern where our waste tank is so it may be hard to get a new replacement that is a perfect fit. If you can't find one you can investigate flexable water bladders.
I believe that in the way the v-berth is designed and installed that it is an important structural member stiffening the hull. Any large areas cut out will have to be replaced with fiberglass structure that is of equal stiffness to the balsa cored laminate removed.

Good luck, and let us know how you solve your tank problem.
Micah

If I was going to replace, I think I would build one out of 1/4" plywood or foam board & fiberglass could make it fit any contour.
Thumbs Up

I have built both integral water and fuel tanks. You want to consider what material you use for the inner lining.

Not all of the 25's have similar water tanks. I have seen one, where the tank was forward of the cutout in the middle of the V Berth.
Ronco has the best selection of water tanks

I think tsturm's solution may be the best if you have the skills. I have built water tanks for a previous boat that way and they worked out great. You have to finish the interior with a food safe coating.
Good luck, Micah
