|
|
Hi guys.
A good friend of mine just bought a 37' Nordic Tug which he has moored in Anacortes. He is looking for a reliable paint shop to either repaint the hull (the previous owners had painted it red but he'd like to go back to white) or go back to the original "ivory" gelcoat thus removing the paint. Which would you recommend? How hard is it to go back to the original gel coat and which is more economical? Most importantly do any of you have a good reference for a company that does this type of work in Anacortes or vicinity.
Thanks all,

I cannot answer about the painters in Anacortes. But it is often very difficult to go back to an original gel coat after having painted the boat. He probably would be best served by sanding and fairing, then an epoxy primer (again, should have had one initially to the red color). A primer would help cover the red and give a more neutral for the Ivory color. I much prefer a boat which is Awl-gripped than gel coat. A good paint job means no waxing for 11 to 12 years, and a good looking hull all of that time... _________________ Bob Austin

Not in Anacortes, but Bitter End Boat Works in Bellingham has a good reputation.
Jessie is the owner, 360-676-2407. They have done several C-Dory jobs, bottom paint etc and have had good reports here.

North Harbor Diesel and Cap Sante Marine both work on big boats in Anacortes.
I'm sure they can provide guidance.
Here's a link to Anacortes Marine Trade organization.
