Got some interesting info from a West Marine buyer today re: Garmin in 2006. Look for a smaller (18") radar radome offering and some major wireless (Bluetooth) bells and whistles. Apparently a handheld unit will be offered which will repeat the display seen at the helm.
Gonna be an interesting first quarter. |

Sneaks,
Thanks for the heads up! I've got a Garmin 3006 and was looking to add radar in sometime next year. Hope they have the new option out by then.

This is interesting news because I've been trying to decide between a Garmin and a Raymarine setup. The Garmin setup looks a bit better to me in terms of the screen clarity and chart details on the maps but the radar dome looks bigger than my boat.
Raymarine has everything I want including an autopilot but their GPS and the quality of their maps don't see quite as nice as the Garmin.
I guess I'll have to wait and see what Garmin does this year. |
