I am new to the C dory group. Wife and I bought a Tomcat about a year ago. Waiting on our Camper Top and hope to have the boat back some day. Anyway we own docks downriver from Cathlamet on Deep River and could host maybe or a day cruise fro Cathlamet ? Depending on timing. |

tinbender, Welcome to C-BRATS. Nice of you to offer, Thank you. It has been a while, but at the last CBGT there at Cathlamet we did a down river cruise to Astoria. Maybe a stop by you dock could be worked in there. Sure hope you join in.

Thanks Keith for the suggestion of that time frame. August would be a good month for us to do some travel on the Columbia. We have never been on that part of the river and would love to do it! _________________ Gary F

I have never organized a gathering.
Is August 25th through the 28th a reasonable time space? |

Well Keith, I think you would do a great job in organizing this event. I can help you and we could work together on this if you would like. There seems to be a lot of interest in doing a Columbia river outing. With the boating experience of those attending, I think the outing would be a great success. Maybe we should end this thread which is almost two years old and start over. Consider making a new thread with a set date. August 25th through the 28th sounds good to me. Anyone else want to join and is this date good for you?

If you aren't aware, that is right in the middle of the buoy 10 salmon fishing on the lower Columbia. Good if you are a fisherman and want to fish. Not so good if you want to avoid massive amounts of boats. |

Thanks. It would be nice to avoid busy launch ramps. Suggestions on a good time of the year for this outing to avoid crowds, have a nice cruise and just get-together?

I am not sure when it gets really busy at Cathlamet ,as it is quite a ways up river from me, and the fishing regulations are constantly shifting for that fishery. But to avoid the buoy 10 fishery on the lower river , it needs to be prior to August. Maybe someone that fishes near Cathlamet can figure when the river has fewer people in that area. I don't fish that far up. I will try to check with a couple guys that do also. |

Cathlamet sees the most fishermen from March to May for the spring salmon season. The B10 season boats are pretty much all downstream in July for ocean and August when the river opens. In September the boats are scattered out more with a lot of them up by Cathlamet and further upstream chasing the salmon in the fall. In August Cathlamet should be pretty quiet as far as fisherman although the launch ramp may be busy at times with go-fast boats if the weather is real nice.
Some folks, though, may be more inclined to be down in the estuary for fishing than moored at Cathlamet, although if the brewery and taco truck are still there and in business what's a couple of days off from fishing?
The Cathlamet gatherings in the past have been in the early spring and it seems we were lucky with the springer seasons being off for whatever weekend was picked. The regs can be goofy for the spring salmon and usually shut down for a while in the middle of the run when quotas are reached.
August might be a more pleasant time, for sure. I recall at the first Cathlamet gathering about 20 years ago we woke up the morning of April 4 with a dusting of snow in the cockpit. Cathlamet can be a neat walking around town so a warm summer weekend might be best. _________________ TyBoo Mike
