What is the general consensus on Suzuki motors? A newish 175 in particular.

I have experience with Yamaha and Honda, but not Suzuki. I was considering a C-Dory 22 with a Suzuki on it before I bought the one I have with a Honda.

Happy with our 2006 150. About 600 hours. Normal maintenance but the lower unit had to be re-sealed in 2019 as I had cloudy gear oil. Pressure check showed a leak. Paint on the engine cover is peeling. No other issues.

The new version of the 175 is a more powerful version of the 150 block and a less powerful version of the 4 cylinder 200 all the same engine block. The weights and lower units are almost the same. They all have chain driven no maintenance oil bath camshaft drives. And fairly simple maintenance routines. We always use engine covers to protect the subtle metalflake black paint when off the water. I did buy the digital optional guage readout that has every engine parameter available as well as a fuel flow calculator. There are fewer authorized dealers so that can be a factor.
I like our new Suzuki 200, it is about the same weight as the 135 Honda it replaced, it is very, quiet, smooth and powerful in comparison and it's only equivalent is the Yamaha 200, we got a great deal on it at the C-doy dealer in Oregon.

I have about 600 hours and 2 1/2 years on my Suzuki DF200 which is the same inline-4 block as the DF175. Nothing but good to say about it. Of course, it replaced an old Honda 130 on my heavy CD25 so the performance alone makes everything else about the motor great.

Suzuki got kind of a bad reputation a few years back with some internal corrosion issues that I believe were due to using the wrong style of anodes in the block. They have corrected that and taken great pains to make sure it is fixed. At least that's what it says on the internet, so it must be true.

The only thing I do not like is having to remove a side cover to get to the oil filter, but even that isn't too bothersome now that I have memorized all the fastener locations. A small air ratchet helps, too.

It looks like you are considering this for your CD22. I think the 175 would be a little too much for a CD22 hull. Actually, a lot too much. My CD25 will get up to 40 mph with the 200 and is is pretty squirrelly at that speed. A CD22 would probably be airborne with 175 hp.

I had two 150's on the Tom Cat, and they were excellent motors. I have a 140 (smaller block) on the Caracal Cat, and it is about 11 years old--not sure of the hours offhand , but never missed a beat.

Not exactly, it is something else. The Honda 90 on my CD22 runs just fine. Just wanted to know what people thought of Suzuki outboards because I have no experience with them.

First time my brother got on the boat he asked when to start the engine. It had been already running and warming up. He said he didn't realize it was running because it was so quiet at idle. Cool
