Hello everyone. I am planning to take the inside passage from Bellingham to Ketchikan around mid-May. I was wondering if there is anyone else out there thinking about making the trip during that time period? If so, let me know and we could talk about partnering up. I’ve made the trip several times on commercial fishing boats and tug boats, but this will be the first on my C-dory.

That's on the "bucket list" but not until I retire... _________________ "We can go over there...behind the 'little one'....."

I would not stop at Ketchikan. Although BC has some great cruising, you are going to miss the essence of AK.
I am sure you will find others going that way. I never was a fan of buddy boating--but it does work well for some folks. If we met folks we liked, we would say "see you in a month at xx". Having said that there was one boat and crew we did especially enjoy and we were able to lend them one of our crew members when the wife's morning sickness got so bad, that she really could not make passages with her husband and two teenagers... _________________ Bob Austin

Bob Austin. I was born and raised in southeast Alaska. I do know how beautiful it is up there. I plan on doing Alaska in legs. Bellingham to Ketchikan will be my fist leg. For the first leg, my only passenger will be my dog. Looking for a partner just in case, for that first and longest stretch. |

Joel, You will be right in time for the Friday Harbor CBGT (C-Brat Get Together), which will be the middle-ish of May, 05/14 - 05/17 - Friday Harbor CBGT and here is the link to the discussion:
http://www.c-brats.com/viewtopic.php?t=28075
There are often times Brats headed north after that so you could get a buddy boat for part of the way up Vancouver Island anyway.
There are some good write-ups here on the site if you use the search:
C-Dory AND north AND inside AND passage AND Alaska
Use the Find All Words button below the box.
Put that into the C-BRAT Search button box and you sill get about 20 relies. I know of at least 2 Brats who are considering Going around Cape Caution this year, so you may get some more responses. There are some very detailed, well written blogs as well. Best of luck and really, consider Friday Harbor as the jump off point. It will be worth it.

SleepyC. Thanks for the reply. That’s a great idea and Friday Harbor is a great shoving off point. |

Switters, Great. Would love to get to meet you at the FH-CBGT. If you are out early, and want a bit of a pre trip shake-down, you are welcome to join the pre cruise. We will be leaving from Coronet Bay, Deception Pass area on Monday morning and be in the islands for a few days before the actual Thurs to Sun gig at the Port of FH marina.
You can find the links to both events at the Friday Harbor info button under "Event Sign-ups".
