Looks like it should be an early morning departure for slack time and great pictures under the bridge at the pass, and we get a downhill ride that far. By 0700 there will be a -5 knot current running. It is easier to predict the tide and current than the weather. Will have to wait and see. You should be there to see it best.

Deception Pass St Pk is the most visited state park in WA state. Here is the link to the Deception Pass State Park.

https://parks.state.wa.us/497/Deception-Pass

PARK FEATURES
Deception Pass State Park spreads over 3,854 acres, a marine and camping park with 77,000 feet of saltwater shoreline and 33,900 feet of freshwater shoreline on three lakes. The park is actually located on two islands — Fidalgo to the north and Whidbey to the south. The Canoe Pass and Deception Pass bridges connect the two islands, creating a gateway for exploration.

There is a note on the park page:
Quote:
Please note: U.S. Navy jets from nearby Naval Air Station Whidbey Island periodically fly over the campground while engaged in local training. Depending on the direction of the wind, their flight pattern may put them above the park, creating noisy conditions for campers.

Hey, That is the sound of freedom. Come on out and enjoy. (Emogee for a heart and US Flag goes here.)

Harvey, this sounds great. I'm not ready to commit yet but will consider it. If we do this flotilla* we'd meet you at Sucia as we like putting in at Bellingham.

* Someone clever needs to come up with a catchy name for your annual (see what I did there?) cruise.

Hey, Harvey, good idea! You've reeled in a few so far and you'll catch more before you cast off May 10th. Provided it's not too windy, I'd like to be out and about that weekend and join the flotilla for the day on Sunday. Then back to work, and join y'all at Friday Harbor Thursday.

Brock, Would love to see you on the water there. As the plan goes now I am likely to be either on the dock at Coronet or at least within vhf range. Might be in the neighborhood of a certain Nordic 26, depending on the timing.

Hi Harvey, sure looking forward to spending a couple of weeks with you. Jeff and I are very excited to spending our time on the water this summer. We have lots of adventures that we will enjoy together. Will be great seeing Steve and Joanie and Brock. Looking forward to see all at the c Brats event in May of 2020 Dianne and Jeff ( Ripple )

Back to you Dianne. Looking forward to being on the water. Still working on some kind of a schedule for boating. Just saw the Cathlamet(stan) CBGT added. Might be fishing involved there.

After the FH-CBGT there are C-Dorys scattering out all around in the Islands. The Pre FH-CBGT Cruise will give a taste of the San Juan Islands, so for those new to the area, or new to their boats, it will give some time for them to get acquainted with both.

After the Friday Harbor event, there may be some who would like to cross the boarder into Canada and go West or North a ways. With some preperation that is easily doable. Often times, it is a spontaneously put together pairing or group, done at the FH-CBGT. It's a great time to make new friends, and cruising togeter is a fun way to learn.

Just some thoughts.

Steve, I'm not sure this is an annual event yet. It might take a few years to get that "handle", but it will be fun. Now that you are "off the rails" you should really plan on joining. Would love to cross wakes with you again, it's been a while.

Patrick, If the timing works, that would be great. Not sure we will have sny "round tables", but guaranteed, we will be able to get around a table. Come on out. We could use some more good stories.

Jeff &Dianne, ...and I look forward to buddy boating with you two, three, four .... again. We had agreat time last time. Lets do it again.

For anyone planning on going to the Friday Harbor CBGT this coming May, this is a good launch point with easy access across Rosario Strait.

For those coming from south of Olympia or even as far up as Tacoma and want to avoid towing through Seattle (which for some of us small town folks is from Olympia to Mt Vernon), there are some options.

From S. of Olympia, take the exit to Hiway 101, and drive up along the scenic Hood Canal to Port Townsend. From there you take the ferry across to Whidbey Island, and then a left turn out of the ferry lot, and then left at the stop/turn light, and go north on the island to the right turn to Coronet Bay/Deception Pass State Park.

From Tacoma, Take Hiway 16, across the Tacoma Narrows bridge. There is no toll going north across the bridge. Follow 16 north, to the left turn to cross the Hood Canal floating bridge. From there, follow signs to Port Townsend. Take the ferry to Whidbey Island, and then a left turn out of the ferry lot, and then left at the stop/turn light, and go north on the island to the right turn to Coronet Bay/Deception Pass State Park.

Yes, there will be a ferry fee. No, it will not be as stressful as driving through "Seattle". You trade near 100 miles of heavy, stressfull, fast, multiple lanes of traffic, FOR a quiet beautiful ride along Hood Canal and a ~$70 ferry fee that will give you 30 minutes of being on the water, and you don't even have to steer or watch for logs CoolSmile

As noted earlier in the thread, Parking fee is $10 per day.

A brief look at the tides and it looks like an early morning run from Sequim could have potential for wind against tide, at least later in the AM after the winds come up. But, an Afternoon crossing to D.P. could work well. Will have to see in closer to real time.

For anyone who is interested in a great parking option for medium to long term, (so that would be a week and longer), and want to avoid driving through Seattle, I just checked with my friend in Sequim.

"$30 a week, or $100 a month. Transport to or from John Wayne Marina is $10. No in or out on Saturdays." Well off the street, close to town but remote, and no thru traffic, vehicle or walking. He is at the end of a Half mile lane. This is not covered or gated, but should have no problems.

If you are interested, please PM me and I will set up the contact.
