I have had my Wallas (originally installed when boat was new -- 2005), and it has always worked, whenever I turned it on. Admittedly that is not often. It gets turned on high to start, runs there for 15 min then adjust for comfort, then back to high for 15 min before being turned off. Also, always use Kleen Heet --- just cause it works.

I just took the Wallas out of my new to me boat. It probably came with the boat, a 2006 model C-25. I havenet tried it yet but if anyone is interested, I will see if I can fire it up. _________________ 14 boats over the years, half were sail |

A used Wallas has real value. There are always C Brats who want to buy one. Be sure that all is hooked up correctly, before trying to start it. The stoves like to have 12.6 or more volts. Scan Marine will check and make sure they are working well. _________________ Bob Austin

A wallas stove / heater is a lot like a motor sailor. They dont sail or motor well but they do get you there. We installed an alcohol stove and a separate diesel heater. The heater is great and will even dry cloths if you hang them up in front of the out let. Heats cabin up in short order and ALWAYS fires up, which is lot more then I can say for any of the wallas cook top/ heater we have had. The denatured alcohol works great and is easy to find.
We have had nothing but trouble with both of the wallases we has. Complete money pits. Other have not had any trouble. My wife refused to go out in the boat if I did not replace the wallas because you never knew if you were going to be cold or warm. If you were going to have hot food or not. Low teck stove has made her and I very happy. _________________ Thomas J Elliott

I sure wish there was a bit smaller version of the Dickinson Bristol made that would fit a Cdory. That would be sweet. I spent some time on an old WW2 MV in southeast AK in the winter with a Dickinson diesel stove. Very nice for heat and cooking.

Running a Wallas stove for heat without a heating lid or without the lid in the down (heating) position will eventually destroy the electronics by thermal transfer. Please don't do that, since a thermal drive fan will not solve that problem.
The newer (post 2006) stove/heaters have lids that change lid fan speed to match combustion level, so they get very quiet when running on low settings. The new fans get quieter every day and now have well over 20k hours life expectancy.
Thanks for using Wallas.

|

I use one of those little single burner butane stoves, two different 1 lb bottle propane stoves, several DIY alcohol stoves, two white gas stoves (MSR and Coleman) but the Queen of the House is my Bremer Sea Swing that uses the one pound bottles is fully gambled (and is movable from mount to mount). Some day I will find one with wither a kerosene or a white gas burner (there is a Sterno model also). If you can find one under $200 in great shape with all the parts it is a buy. At one time I had a CNG stove/oven on a Cape Dory 36, safe but a hassle to get the SCUBA type bottles filled. None of these stoves needed electricity so they always work!!! Bob |
