I am planning to replace the OEM seat in my boat with something that is more comfortable and possibly has swing up armrest. On my 22, I had my canvas guy redo the foam with better quality material, with more density and better contour. On my 26, it has the same seat, but my canvas guy is no longer in business and the other quotes received may allow me to purchase a new seat.
The problem with my recent search of possible seats, is that the footprint of our boats seat is relatively small. I did search on this site and did not see any postings for seats, like I am looking for.
If you HAVE changed your seat, to something other than the simple OEM fold down, please take a moment and share your solution. _________________ Steve Baum

Somewhere here there is a posting about someone who replaced their helm seat with one from a minivan. |

That was Bill Carli's boat, Soulmate, a CD-25 (commuter interior). As I recall in talking with Bill, the seat came from a Toyota minivan. Bill sold his whale watch business in Friday Harbor, but I used to visit with him regularly when we were there. I would imagine the photos are still here, if you do a search.
I replaced the stock EOM seat with one from Bass Pro Shop - better back support and more cushion on the bottom. |

I found a replacement tractor seat in a Farm Supply store. The back is a little taller than the original seat, which gives me better support. It folds down flat. I replaced my under sink door closest to the door with a sheet of quarter inch plywood. When at dock or anchor the plywood rests on top of the seat back which more than doubles the work space for the kitchen. The seat has arms rests that can be released. I've used it a few years and have taken both arms off for different reasons. I am a big person and on the left side I need to drop the arm to slide / swivel in and out. When the arm is dropped down in front of the refrigerator it blocks the door from being opened. After a while we just took it off. The right side was useful, but one time at speed something happened and I wanted the power off NOW and I grabbed for the throttle fast, hit the arm instead and it took a bit to get the power off. That spooked me enough that I've gotten by without the arm ever since.
In Two Bears photos check the "mods" album for picks of the seat installed. What the photos don't show is a layer of "foam" glued to the back of the seat which gives traction to the plywood work surface. There are also photos of the box which has dimensions and other info.

Chuck,
Thank you for the Tractor Supply lead. I found your chair, but they only sell it in black. Not to be too picky, but it is very hot in the mid Atlantic in the summer months, so I need a lighter color.
Phil,
I will start searching in Amazon tonight.
All others,
Two companies that have chairs of interest, but finding a size to fit the footprint is challenging.

Ray, who was the major innovator of the 25, Seaweed, which now own had a Temptress Elite high back seat installed. Unfortunately the next owner took it out--and put in a cheaper Temptress --which is OK..
Here is the good Temptress Elite high back:
This does not fold down unfortunately... _________________ Bob Austin

I am thinking of replacing vs recovering my helm seat too, but with the throttle control for twins down beside the seat there is a very little "extra" space. I would be interested in the same info with the addition of what the over all width is, outside to outside on the seat cushion portion.

I had to drill four holes to place the new seat a few inches away from the throttles. It didn't affect driving the boat. I'm pretty happy with the new seat. |

Bob, I have that same high back chair and I love it. The short arms make getting in and out easy and I don't miss not having moveable arm. Price was great too. Two years now and good as new. |

Several years ago I replaced the original helm seat on my CC23 with one I found at Llebroc. It was narrow enough to fit well, could be ordered with Sunbrella to match my boat, and was extremely comfortable. It came with fold-up arms, but I decided I liked the seat better without them - the starboard side arm somewhat interfered with my twin engine controls. Despite some hassles with mounting hardware, I was very happy with the seat. I don't know if this model is still available. I remember having several phone conversations with Llebroc because their web information was confusing and incomplete, and I discovered this seat only after considerable effort.

I never had a problem with the factory helm seat. My problem is lack of leg/foot room. Changing the seat will not help this. |
