I've seen more blown etecs than any other motor. And resale value is in the toilet in my opinion |

A lot of people would prefer a boat with a modern fuel injected 4 stroke, including myself. Basically any other brand. That may hurt resale if you ever wanted to sell this boat.
The reliability issues were in the early years of Etec. Im not sure if they were worked out by 2009. They are also louder, which is a big complaint.
I still have some small two stroke outboards that I tinker with but my days of mixed fuel are mostly left for chainsaws and leaf blowers.

I have had three in the last 10 years, a 175 hp, and two different 250 hp a 2011 and a 2014.
Outboard opinions are like political opinions.
None of my motors have had any kind of failures. Trouble-free.
Forums ? Look at opinions about THT .
The only thing I so not like, the dealer network needs to be far better. And I have told Corporate this every year at the boat show. _________________ Cdory 22 Angler

I have 2 90 hp etecs. Year 2007. Never had any problems
Don’t know about the 250s
They are lighter, use less fuel, low maintenance, have good support from dealer here in Fairbanks
I’d buy another. I don’t understand all the thumbs down without data explaining why or a reason to support it
I would not buy any brand of motor if a dealer was not available
My 2 cents |
