We plan to do a couple weeks in the San Juans in September. I see the season is open through the end of September. Is it worth buying a non resident license? We are only interested in a few to eat and show some friends who have never done it. Thanks in advance. Ken

You'll catch crab in the San Juans as long as you have some idea of the depths, bottoms, and bait they like.

I would definitely check the reg's but i believe you can purchase a one or two day pass which would be a lot cheaper.

If you are doing a couple weeks and interested in any serious fishing during that time, your best bet is likely a salt water only non resident license with Puget sound crab endorsement. There are also 1-3 day options for the license and endorsement. But if you aren’t looking for the experience of catching and cooking your own, you can swing by Costco on the way in and get a box of Alaskan crab legs probably cheaper than a boat load of licensing, crab pots, tackle and bait will run ya and eat like a king Very Happy

Not the same as hauling in your own I know, but man they are tasty...

Ken . give me a call and I can hook you up with a couple of pots for that time. fishing is closed right now in san juans for the most part but crab is open. Lots of places to catch crab in most of the anchorages.
