Hi,
I'm interested in buying a 24' Tomcat. My wife and I have extensively cruised two RHIBs for the past 10 years and our first son just arrived this July. We are looking to upgrade to a more kid-friendly boat and the Tomcat seems just about perfect for our needs. I'm open to any condition boat, I've got a lot of boatbuilding experience, so even an older boat would be fine. We are located in Southern California but open to the right boat in other locations as well.
Thanks so much!

Ole

Welcome to the site. Georgs Kolesnikovs had a 24 in Ontario Canada,
Here.. His web site does not mention sold. I know Georgs and he keeps his boats up.

Steve Steve Pazian in Homosassa Florida had one for sale recently.

Here . It has been repowered.

I don't know if either of these sold. I realize that these are at the opposite ends of the county--but the 24's don't come up for sale often. They are all going to be "older", but most are in "good condition" A few have been rebuilt or repowered--often making them a little more expensive.

The one in Florida is still on the "C Dory for sale" thread

In May "Coastal Crew" mentioned possibly selling theirs--Courtney BC.
And here

Ole, if inclined to share, I would be interested in the what, how, and why of cruising on a RHIB.

Thank you for those leads!

Regarding the RHIB cruising I mentioned:
Most of our trips have been on our Avon Searider 5.4m onto which I built a lightweight pilothouse. We live near Santa Barbara, CA and the Channel Islands are about 25-40nm off the coast. The boat is super cheap to run (5+ nm/gal relatively fast, very lightweight and very stable at anchor for it's size since it has a compartment in the hull that partially floods when off plane. The pilothouse accommodates a full size mattress for overnighting which then get rolled up and stores out of the way to run the boat. Most of our trips have been one-two night weekend trips to the islands or up the coast although we have done some trailer trips up to SF and Lake Powell (7 nights 260nm). We have run this boat for the past 9 years and have been lucky enough to log
We had the chance to pick up a bigger ex-Navy 7m workboat which is a 24' diesel RHIB and have also done some cruising on that one where we have just pitched a backpacking tent on the bow area which already had attachment points from the boat serving dual purpose as a lifeboat when in the military. This past summer we took this boat on a 9 day trip from Santa Barbara to Santa Barbara Island, Catalina and return. My original plan for the bigger boat was to build another pilothouse, but the mid-mounted engine complicates the layout and this particular boat is modestly powered for its current configuration and would probably struggle with the added weight of a pilothouse and full cruising setup. That's the abbreviated story that has us so interested in a Tomcat since on both boat's we are more or less living out of a pelican case that's our kitchen and an array of dry bags. A new kid on the crew (6 weeks old at the moment) is making the comforts of a closed cabin and proper cruising setup seem very interesting Very Happy

Ole,
Good on the inflatables and great adventures. I am familiar with both boats you owned. The TC 24 will be a great upgrade--and perfect for the new crew member.

You need to get in touch with trpsurf--Tim. They have a TC 24, have done a number of videos of their adventures in S. Calif offshore Islands. Their two kids are growing up fast, and loving the boat.

Here is their U tube channel.. The way to bring up kids in So. Cal!

I spent over 50 years sailing in S. Cal, so love all about the offshore Islands.

Thanks! I have chatted with Tim and he was super nice and gave me the local low-down. His channel served as an early inspiration for me to look into the Tomcat 24 design.[/img]
