So this C-22 Open has three motors, two 60 HP Yammies and an 8 HP center mounted. I thing the transom has a metal plate to beef it up. Can any 22 or 25 take three motors like this? Criagslist link for picutres:

It does appear that a piece of metal was added to the transom--as to how effective and how well that is attached is a conjecture.

I believe that Jay (Hunky Dory) was going to out two 60's on his 22. The 8 hp in the middle is a bit unusual--generally one would see a single main and a transom or bracket mounted kicker.

Also all of the engines seem to have power type or "big ears" props. My guess is that the owner wanted to be able to run home on a plane with a single engine, and thus pitched the props lower.

There was a 22 for sale way back that had two 25's I believe. Lots of ways to skin a cat but in Alaska I see on the web that they often run a bigger kicker than we might here in the lower 48 more of as a "get home" in a shorter time against tides/wind than as a trolling motor. Sort of a split between two mains or a main an a small kicker. Two 60's and an 8/9.9 plus all the cables, controls, mounting hardware, beefed up transom, and two full sets of batteries is a lot of weight in a 22 but then his boat has no cabin or decks so maybe the weight is not as big an issue. Nice looking boat in any case, there is an open 22 on our for sale list at a lot less $$$$. Bob Jarrard

Paul,
Good memory. I had forgotten about that boat. I made a comment about the cheap vinyl being used for the enclosure--and it looks as if the use of the cheap clear vinyl came back to haunt the owner:

A few hundred $ more, and there would have been a great long lasting enclosure. That might polish out--but it is damaged, and will not last a real long time. The good news, is that it could be used for a battery, and the fabric around the outsides, reused, and not be real expensive to re-build properly.
