if i were to order a new 26 venture sport, would the dealer/NMI theoretically be able to start with integrating a digital system for EPS, joystick, NMEA multi-function display, etc. from the outset...

even though the least common denominator outboard for counter-rotating versions seems to be stuck at the 115HP spec. that would bump over the 200HP rating (or is that a recommendation?) for the model by 30HP total.

there seems to be a warranty warning from sea star pertaining to running above the limit set by the mfgr.

just thinking things over and trying to plan. thanks.

The Optimus 360 is really a bit of overkill for a Venture 26 or any of the c Dory line... What is the goal for the Optimus system?

Probably putting an extra 30 HP on the Venture transom, would not be a major issue with the boat. Not sure what motors you are considering, but look at the weight of the twin 90's which have traditionally been used vs the 115. I would run it by the builder however.

Most of the rigging is done by dealers--rather than factory. However I don't believe there is a dealer near San Diego--

install a novice-friendly system for both myself and my wife to comfortably operate during traditionally stressful boating situations, which may then increase the likelihood that we will use our boat more often.

it's all about the ability to install a counter-rotating unit. the manufacturers all seem to limit these models to 115HP and no less. if they did make 90's with CR part numbers i would be totally satisfied with those. but, can't seem to find any.

Have you considered a C-Dory Tomcat 255 which will easily take motors in the counter-rotating size range?

For the difference in price you would be far better ahead to invest 1/4 to 1/3 of that cost into some good training by a captain who is comfortable and accopmlished running twin outboards (find a BoatUS tow captain), most of their boats are twin outboard powered. You will also gain a boatload of other good info as well.

yes! that is on the agenda no matter what. i come from the surfing background and occasionally zip around on PWC but i want something now for the whole family to enjoy and not just me heading out for 3 hours by myself.

Cost, more than anything else, although there might be some folks that are initially unfamiliar / uncomfortable with the catamaran design, which can be a great advantage in performance, safety, and both interior cabin and cockpit space.

Worth checking out. I'd rather have a pre-owned CD-255 Tomcat in great condition than a brand new CD-25 or 26 monohull. Cost comparison would be interesting!

Thataway (Bob Austin) could give you a definitive answer on the comparison of the two different boat types, as he's owned them both and is the most knowledgeable person on this site.

I owned a C-Dory 26 Venture with twin Honda 90s.

I can see no advantage of having more hp than the factory
recommended max of 200.

Tho the 90s were not counter rotating, the difference in
handling, low speed and otherwise, was negligible from
other twin engine boats I've had with counter rotating props.

Also, the 26 Venture hull, in my view, begins to get squirrely
in the higher 30 mph range so more speed would be undesirable.

I do enjoy higher speeds on the water in the right boat.
A C-Dory is not one of them.

Aye.
