Hi folks -

The floor on my new-to-me 2005 Angler 16' has suffered some kind of abrasion damage, as you can see here.

I'm wondering whether folks think this requires some kind of repair, or just a good repaint?

Speaking of paint: In this thread, there are some good ideas about paint options (thank you, folks).

Any advice about which paint might be most appropriate for a surface in this condition?

Thank you!

The many excellent suggestions given in the link you posted are all still very good and valid today as they were about a year ago. (From thickened gel coat, Dri Deck, one part or two part paints, Bed Liner, fake teak strips, hardwoods, various cushion mats, epoxy, bilge coat, etc)

I don't see any reason to do extensive repair. I would put a coat of epoxy or epoxy primer on before painting, and after a very good scrubbing with both a detergent and TSP to be sure the cockpit floor is absolutely clean. I don't see any reason to gel coat, except if you want to try and emulate a non skid.

Beside the "Deckadence" vinyl loop mat, there is cheaper vinyl loop mat from American floor Mat company. Unfortunately the maximum width is only 4 feet. For example a 5/16" thick vinyl loop mat would cost about $180. Paint is a lot less expensive. We have gone with Deckadence, because it is available in wider width (6 feet) but a 4 x 6 piece would be about $400!!.

I am very happy with the vinyl loop mat and would recommend it in grey color.

Sometimes these crop up on E-bay--there seems to be one there now?? not sure if it is the model you need. Another source is The Hull Truth, either ask in the electronics section or watch the ads in the parts forum. There is a much wider audience there.

Bob - thank you for your very helpful reply!

As for floor protection, I was considering the "TrafficMASTER" 3x3 anti-fatigue mat, available at Home Depot.

Two interlocked together would nicely span the width of floor of the 16'. As for length, add two more and it would cover from the front step up in the Angler back to just under the transom.
