If this was a two-smoker I'd know where that oil line came from, but...
Seeing it's an '03 Honda 70
I don't know
Do you suppose they oiled the prop shaft?
Should I be concerned?
Or is it just excess fuel that didn't burn?
Certainly would like to hear what y'all think

...and seeing that this is a 16 year old engine
with only 179 hours on it
Do you suppose the seals are bad? |

I didn't really see from where the oil mist is coming, but here's a few free comments.
If it's the oil under the prop, check the lower end oil. See if it's white. If not, tighten the plugs and try again.
Journey On's Honda motor has ~1000 hrs over the last 14 years. I just replaced the water pump/drive shaft and shift shaft seals, because the lower end oil was turning white. The old seals were trash. Replacing the seals was easy as was seeing they needed to be replaced. The prop seals are harder to replace, so I'm waiting to see if the upper seals fixed the problem
If the oil is coming from the top end (power head?) any leak should be easy to see and trace.

Thanks Boris
This is a motor I've yet to see
One on a boat I'm looking to purchase
Just talked to the salesman and he says it's fuel
And that a mechanic is going to look into it |

This oil appears to be only on the skeg. This would suggest that it was from the seat at the lower gear box prop shaft. It is possible that some monofilament line got caught on the prop, and damaged the seal--most common cause. The lower unit oil needs to be changed and inspected for water intrusion. _________________ Bob Austin

I think you're exactly right Bob
Mechanic at the dealer is saying it's just fuel but I don't think so. |

If you've got fuel coming out under the prop you've got bigger problems than an oil leak. |

No doubt. Guess I'll find out when I go down there
I'd really like to just have the hull for a new 115 and be done with it |

Or wouldn't the fuel just be excess from the exhaust that was not burned in totality?
Never had a large four stroke outboard with multiple carbs |

This boat doesn't look to have wipers either
But the switch for them is there
Do they hang from the top?
Or do any of y'all install them under the windshield?
This place has everything else, sure there's a thread on wipers too
Is there a particular mfg of wipers that I should look for?

Quite a few threads on upgrading from manual
Or replacing blades
Two different brands, AFI and Oregano (sp?)
Assuming they hang from the top
Got to look for pics of your boat's windshields
Guess I need to make a trek up to Crystal River and look at the boats there |

That's what I was thinking - just exhaust residue. But let a mechanic check it for you and "guarantee" you that that is all it is. |
